What happened?
Google responded to ChatGPT with their own answer to search, Bard, which is answering search queries without backlinks or sources.

This would upend the relationship between content creators and search engines, ruining SEO, and Google in the process.

We must speak up now before we give Google one more inch with Zero Click. It's time to draw the line. Help the below posts by retweeting, sharing and tagging all SEO's you know and follow, and petition them to get #bardgate trending.

Well, if they don't innovate they will lose the race. They (operations) have thought about this a thousand times for sure. Good thing they listened and started with their own.
 
You needn't worry about AI. Even if you paid $10 billion to Google, they would never use AI tools for showing SERP results. To get at least 99% accuracy from AI answers, it would take at least 5 years from now. Google is very clear about what to show and what to hide from people.

After all, if big companies found Google using AI to show answers, they would sue for sure. Because they are who provided the quality content which Google used to train the models. It happened in the past too. Google paid millions as a penalty.

This has been in the making for at least the last 10 years, a few thousand content creators and SEO's are not going to stop it. Google snippets were the preview to what the future of Google will be, it was only inevitable that they would implement a sophisticated zero click system. I'm sure that their AI is already significantly more intelligent than ChatGPT's, but they're going to roll it out slowly to get users accustomed to the new way of obtaining info online.

The only thing I wonder about is how this is going to affect their ad revenue. Surely, many people will refrain from clicking ads if they are just given the perfect answer to all their questions immediately by Bard.

For example someone asks "best plumbers Dallas" and Bard responds, "here is a list of the best plumbers I've found according to recent data and reviews I've gathered from sources - X, Y, and Z", wouldn't that mean that Google is effectively killing their own revenue by not showing their ads at the top?
 
No AI can work without human input.
Google have been promising AI for years. And if they start using real content to generate their BS then people will just block google bot and it will generate NOTHING.
What's wrong with all this panicking? Chatgpt bs?
 
there will be a vicious cycle, without seo, adsense as a reward, no one will create content for AI to learn.

Ha ha. I see only non-coders praising ChatGPT. Experienced developers are well aware of the fact that ChatGPT is not even close to 1% of what Google offers through its search engine.

1. For an idiot like me, chatgpt helps a lot with finding topics but I still have to use humans to write my articles.
2. I can only laugh when people say that google can't detect AI content.
 
AI is great but won't be making something singnificant in the next years at leat 3 or 6 years will start making big changes as we know in the internet and they day by day of the people.
 
On the fact of evolution, companies are competing with each other, which in turn brings no value for content creators. Let's wait and watch where to sail.

Google responding "some say" to searches is not factual at all, and people come to Google for facts. Way too early to overreact to this yet :D

Nah, Google will definitely show an ad before the AI's response when the intent is commercial.

But, for me, this is the real concern. ChatGPT might not be a threat to Google's search engine, but Google is.

The people at Google know that zero-click AI generated information is the future, so why wouldn't they be the ones to replace themselves before someone else does?

If an AI chatbot or something similar can answer 99% of people's questions accurately, in its own words to avoid plagiarism issues, then what need is there for content marketers/bloggers?

And I think it's probably ignorant to say that Google doesn't have the resources to create a version of ChatGPT that can make their own search engine obsolete.

Let's say 99% are correct. But don't you consider the remaining 1% of wrong answers?

1% of the search volume is almost 10 million searches per day.

What about those 10 million people who rely on AI content to do some serious stuff?

That's not the real issue though. There's lots of high ranking articles in certain niches with information that isn't accurate, so getting information from search engines isn't more than 99% accurate either.

The real issue is that, if people can get information without having to search for it themselves, why wouldn't they?
