Hello,

I own a popular entertainment website and many of my competitors have forums - So i've decided i'm going to compete and start my own (extra source of income too).

My competitors use vBulletin - Is the best platform to go for? I heard Xenforo is good too, but since my competitors are using vBulletin, should i go with that?

I'm taking ideas from BlackHatWorld and going to introduce a membership package once it gets going and has active users.

If i use vBulletin i'll be using the Cloud service, has any had any experience with that service? Don't really want to mess around finding another host so i'm scrapping the vBulletin CONNECT package. I can't use my current VPS as it crashes with high traffic unfortunately, so i don't think it'll cope with a forum on it too.

Thanks,

Think for a long term forum... I'm bad with coding so when updates mess my CMS bridge this make me feel so weak and always cause the users leave the website. I can confirm xenforo is good , check also "discourse" which I really love.

Well if it's not the best, your competitors are morons for using it, aren't they?

Personally, I have more experience with vBulletin, and it's great. But I wouldn't say there is one "best" platform that can top all others. It all depends on your needs. You look like you've done more research on VB, so you may as well just go ahead with it.

xenforo is best, go for it, user experience is almost same.so your competitors user will not get any trouble using it.

Thanks for the recommendation, will check it out :)

Vbulletin is best solution for forum.

What hosting would you recommend? Or is their Cloud service good?

Thanks, thinking of doing so - What hosting do you work with for vbulletin? or is there Cloud service any good? Heard they use Amazon Hosting.

Vbulletin would be good for you to use. Best of luck to you on this!

Both of very robust solutions and have been used by countless webmasters. Take a demo of both and find out which one is better for you to administer. Both of these platforms are feature rich, so it all boils down to what you like at the end of the day.

PS. Don't be like me and waste precious hours thinking about something like this. I am slightly OCD and spend countless hours over small stuff like choosing a theme for my blog. lol

You start a QnA forum for your website, they just got shocked and you will have more good position with them.

Thought so, but i've been comparing the prices and it seems xenforo would be easier to find a host for etc. Have you used vBulletin's cloud service?

I'm so OCD xD Thought i was the only one who takes hours to decide on a theme.. I'm looking at xenforo as sites like MacRumors use.

buy a xenforo, just because they use vbulletin doesnt mean anything

ive had a celeb pic forum since 2006, can i get your forums url or do you need any help

I suppose i could take a different path to my competitors - Challenge 'em ;) Would you mind sending over a link to your forum? Would be interested to check it out.

Thanks!

I recommended these, Thank you

Thanks, would you recommend a high-end VPS or Dedicated Server? Heard xenforo is light on resources.

Thanks for the idea - May of my competitors have subcategories on TV Shows which seem extremely popular too.
