Starting a new journey usng 7878's method

Well, I'm still waiting for my first check because the owner was on vacations last week.
The woman who told me it was too expensive called me back and told me she was interested.
My last meeting was a bit problematic : the guy was sick and didn't tell me about that.

Great job. That happened to me before as well. I guess after our meeting, he smartened up and realized that he will be losing more money if he doesn't start doing something about the neg reviews.

So in your case, she made the right decision contacting you and get it going. Smart women.

Yep. Will call her back tomorrow. In fact, she talked with her husband and I think they figured that it was not expensive for what they could gain from it. But, will see tomorrow : maybe, they will decrease the price.

In fact, I also have another problem because I'm currently having an internship so I don't have much time to scheduled meetings. Except on Saturdays.... I know I should have thought about it before but in fact, a month ago I was on "vacations" so I had more time... Hope setting meetings on Saturdays won't be a problem for my clients.

Schedule them before you head to work, after work or on weekends? I guess you will need to work with what you got.

Depends on your approach. Trying once is not trying. You may have used a crappy letter, targeted unqualified leads, knew nothing about what you're actually selling etc.

Find where you went wrong and solve it - then relaunch.

EDIT: You having problems with "they don't understand the value"? You're not speaking with them in their own language...& here's how

Stop thinking SELL and start thinking HELP - when's the last time you hesitated to buy something that really helped you? Yeah. The pricetag didn't matter.

Let's put this into perspective: Your client doesn't care that your product is the latest online reputation tool - they want to know how it helps them.
"You'll gather customer phone numbers & emails so we can increase return-visits with Deal Reminders and coupons. Not to mention you'll know the minute a review comes in, where it happened and respond immediately." blah blah more visibility on Google and so forth

In a nutshell ... notice their weaknesses and offer a solution. Now you're no longer selling a product they are clueless about - you're giving them help for a fee.

I tried this and got zero replies.

Guess it all depends on the area

True, but still this method does not work everywhere. I can name several countries where this would not work. Reviews and online reputation are not big deal in those countries. Even more, only hotels and some restaurant have these reviews. Maybe this will change in the future, maybe it will never become an issue. Who knows :).

Well then make it a trend... Everything started somewhere by someone at one point. It might not be a big deal atm but it takes one person one business to start it and the rest will follow.

Update :
1) I've called the woman back. It's a bit more difficult than what i thought. She is not the owner but the owner would be interested. BUT he will sell the restaurant in 3 months (he already has the clients) so he only wants a quick solution. Have a meeting with him on Saturday but I still don't really know what I will tell him. I propose her (I only have talked to the woman and not the owner) to make a deal with the new ownes but she told me that they will do a totally new business (didn't ask if it will still be a restaurant or not). So if you have some propositions, I'm open-minded :)

2) Got another call from a restaurant I contacted last week. In fact, it was another type of letter I had tried. I told them that I had dinner at their place and that I really appreciated my meal, and then when I wanted to put a review on TA, I saw all the neg reviews and then I just proposed them a solution to solve this issue. I can't say it is a complete success but I had 1 call for 7 letters so that's a good ROI. The coinflip is that he asked me what meal I had ordered. I just told me i didn't remember the name and i explained him that i could propose him a solution. It was not the owner unfortunately but he told me that he will talk to the boss. And maybe we will meet.

Hey vvan94. I'm still following your progress here and it's good to see you are still plugging away...

For no1-the guy selling the restaurant. It's a bit confusing isn't it? On first read I figured okay he wants a short term solution to preserve value in his restaurant before selling it. But then you got told by the gate keeper a new business is moving in. It needs some clarification as to whether the restaurant is selling as a going concern or not. Maybe he is opening up in a new location?

As I say get it clear what's happening. He won't want such a short term solution if he's shutting the thing down completely surely. Unless he's wavering as to what he is actually going to do. He might be thinking if he can sort his reputation out he can carry on in which case you are total gold to him-and he will be gold to you as well. That's all the more reason to find out what's going on here.

Good luck and keep us updated.

Hey, I really like your thread since we are both around the same age, Im 20, and I want to start doing ORM here in NYC. I see you have started and trust me bro, you have taken the biggest step which is to start,so congratulations. Now I have a few questions, Do you seek legal advice for setting up contracts? Did you set up an llc before doing business? Do you have prior exp. with orm?

Once again I wish you the best of luck with your business.

Nobody said you can't make it happen.....

Can you please enumerate some of those countries?

In fact, I don't understand why he would need me if he is planning to sell the restaurants in 3 months. But, in fact, I'm planning to use him more like a guy who can bring me referral than like a client.
1) Either he is going to open another restaurant elsewhere. And then i can propose him a solution for his new location.
2) Either i can propose the service to the new owners of the restaurant (she told me they are young guys so maybe they will understand the importance of orm)
3) Or he will totally quit the business but as he has a restaurant which is opened for nearly 30 years, he might have some contacts that might be interested and i will give him some money if they become my clients...

1) Nop. Thx. I took an example of Service Agreement Contract on Google and modify it to fit to my needs.
2) Yep and no. But let's say I have one and I use the name of the company on my contracts.
3) Nop. Not with ORM but with SEO yes. But I'm totally convinced by the pros of ORM and so i think i can be good selling it.

I really admire you determination and number of letters you send out all while doing an internship. I am planning on using the 7878 method to get web design clients. I have heard other people using it for web design but I have a great spin on it that would have people saying WOW when they open the letter.

It is stories like yours that inspire me to use this method and build a whole business around it.

Kudos

Will have some time tomorrow morning to call around 10 restaurants back :) Hope I'll get a meeting.

Update :
Called 5 restaurants today. Result :
- 3 owners were not there today. Will call them tomorrow.
- 1 owner was not interested at all. He hadn't read my letter but when I told him about his bad reviews, he told me that he didn't care about them and his restaurants was full.
- 1 owner told me he was going to sell his restaurant (again !) I told him about referrals and he asked me for prices etc. He might call me back, so let's see.
- The guy I should have met last week told me I could come when I want. He wasn't thinking about a formal meeting so it will be a bit awkward.

You're doing good over there man.Don't give up!!!

Despite you had a couple rejection/no answer, your conversion rate (call back/response) is extremely high.

I have to say this is more like a number game, the more you mail/approach/reach out to businesses, the higher the chance is to close that deal.
And the beauty of it is that, once you close a deal, there is a great opportunity for it to last a long long time (each contract is 6 months, and if you do an amazing job for them, why wouldn't they continue).

So this will allow you to scale up and expand your business naturally.

I was following this thread silently but I highly appreciate your efforts.
I agree with everything originalposter said. I am 100% sure it's a matter of time once you will have a strong business. You need 2-3 good contracts who will recommend you to other owners, you will diversify services and so on.

You have to be patient and smart. As for now, both are checked.

Keep it up!
