After a couple of years selling links, I've just decided to develop an offline business using the 7878 method (.

So I will note all the news I have from this journey.

I decided to focus not on only 1 or 2 businesses but to target businesses such as restaurants, hotels or other niches. I'm in a big city so there is quite a lot of possibilities here. I will try different methods and post the results for each method.

    To do :

    - Create the company (I know should have been the first thing but I can use another company I own for now)

    - Send letters

    - Cold-Call the businesses
    - Print business cards

    Done :

    - Build a website to present the different services (almost done in fact)

    - Write different types of letters depending on the business

    - Send around 10 emails

    - Print some letters

    - Buy a new phone plan

    News :

    - Two days ago, I just wanted to try to send some mails to some restaurants. So I first sent one email and got an a call one hour later. . Didn't answer (cause I didn't have the phone with me :/ ). The guy sent me an email to ask me to call him back. That's a big restaurant (making +500k? profit each year). I called him back today and set up a meeting for the 27th of January (cause won't be there next week). It wasn't that easy because he didn't want to lose time so it's already a good news to have this meeting. But he didn't mention prices at any time ; so I don't know if it's because he's not that interested or because the price is not his principal issue.

Questions : I still have some questions in order to prepare this meeting.

1)I still have one question about the different options that would justify the different offers. I have some ideas of things that could be options but that's not perfectly clear. What would basically be the main differences between the 3/4 different offers and that could justify the different prices?

    2) Instead of proposing 3 offers (and I understood the interest of proposing different offers), I wonder whether it wouldn't be better to propose a basic offer with different upsells ? Also, would you first propose the most expensive offer and then talk about the 2 other offers ( I assume it may increase the number of subscriptions but may also increase the proportion of the cheap offer compared to the expensive offer) ? Or do the exact oposite ( I think it may increase the number of subscriptions for the most expensive offer but may lower the total number of subscriptions) ? That will certainly be one of my different tests but if you have some thoughts about that, I'm open-minded.

For now, I have only sent emails and I don't think I will send the letters before February. I will cold-call the different restaurants next week.

So I'll have to work quite a lot next week to be perfectly ready for my next meeting.

    To be continued.

NB : I'm not a native English, so please don't blame me if I do some mistakes.

Great to hear! I remember sending an email to a TERRIBLE reviewed restaurant and receiving a reply the next morning. Didn't work out after sending the options but cheap business owners exist, and it was likely he'd seen it before. Live and learn!

We'll see what you can accomplish this time of year in ORM.

An upsell is good but proposing 3 offers is also good. Why not propose 3 offers and also an upsell? Like managing the site for $50 monthly and minimal SEO offers

    Thanks.
Yes that may be what I'll do. But what are the differences of the 3 offers ?

Had a second call yesterday. Haven't cold him back yet because it's Sunday. It's a smaller business but it's a business :)
So it's 2 calls for 10 mails sent. Rather good I think. I'll have to cold-call the other restaurants next week, probably Thursday because I'm quite busy these days.

Had my first meeting today. The guy was quite interested but he told me he had to think about because it was quite expensive. What should I do ? The prices I proposed were 700€, 1200€, 1500€.

This question is for people who have already a few clients in ORM : on average, what is the increase % of consumers of your clients ? 5% ? 10% ? 20% ? Because as I don't have any client for now, I don't want to say bullshit. The guy has around 150-250 consumers a day for 30€/consumer.

If I consider an increase of 10% of his consumers, my price of 725€/month represents around 17% of his net revenu augmentation. Is that too much ?

Btw, I'm in Europe but I won't tell exactly where.
In fact, I contacted some restaurants by mail just for a test and I didn't think I would have some answers. So I wasn't that ready.
I will contact a few other restaurants (cause apparently it's working) but I will also focus on hotels, fitness centers, etc.

Another question : has anyone already thought of selling the service at a cheap price and charge the clients for each opt-in ? If yes, what are the methods which can be used to track these opt-ins ? Because I really don't feel at ease using his receipt informations because he could scam me...

Ask him how much one customer is worth to him per month.
If he has 200 customers per day, that's roughly 5,000 customers per month.
Say, 3% of these 5,000 customers (that's 150) will rely on the reviews they are checking online.
If he gets 30euro from each, that's 4,500euro per month from these guys. I believe he could easily give you one third of that moula.

Sell him the solution, not what you do. Tell him that every happy customer easily will reffer at least another 2-3 in their life.
One more thing, price your packages, in such a way that you will have a best seller. For instance, if you want to sell the middle package, then the first package, price is almost the same but much less features and the third price make it 3 times more expensive. This way everyone will want the middle package.

    Best of luck.

    I sent him 2 proposals :
    1) one for 800€/month 2
    2) one for 400€/month and 2€/client he gets thanks to me. But again, it's quite difficult to know how many clients will be there thanks to me. Regard

Regarding to my meeting, I think that I didn't enough focus on what this service can bring him but I told too many general shit, so it was not very interesting. I saw he was interested by some of my proposals, but I'm afraid he would do it by himself. Let's wait for his answer but I'm not that confident with this potential client. (Even if I'm sure it would have been very profitable for him to work with me). Also, I'm only 21, looking as 18, so he asked me if I was doing this for a long time. That was not good I know, but I don't know if it's only because I look young or because I didn't seem very profesionnal. Also, I was between two of his meetings so we didn' have much time to really discuss of his problems and of the solutions. He was in a hurry (I may have made a mistake when I set up a metting 10 days after his call but I couldn't do another way).

Btw, I have my second meeting tomorrow. It's a smaller restaurant but it can be a client though. I think I should focus on the problems he currently has more than on what I can propose. I should focus on making a collaboration with them more than just bringing a product to increase their revenue.

Update : My second client can't meet me tomorrow so the meeting has been rescheduled to next Thursday. That lets me more time to be well prepared. :)

Update 2 : This week end, I will print around 20-30 letters to be able to send them on Monday-Tuesday. I really want to know if mails are more/less efficient than letters. As I have a 20% of calls for mails, I hope my letters will get a bit more. Experiments are the clue of succes I think.

My question is how hard is it to set up the landing page, that the customers will go to through the postcards sent out?

Depends if you know of how to code.
If you don't, you can either use the service provided by OriginalPoster which is good or use the WP Theme that is given in the 7878's thread (message n°1413#).

    Update :
    1) My first client has just told me he was not interested. I know he will try to do the system himself but maybe in sereral months, he will recontact me. I think I didn't do a good meeting because I talked too much about studies and I didn't ask him enough questions about his restaurant, etc. I will try a different approach on my next meeting Thursday.

    2) I've sent around 10 mails today. Will see if I have the "conversion" rate as last time. Hope so !

    3) Tomorrow, I will send my first batch of letters : 10 letters to restaurants with at least 10-15 reviews.

    Things I noticed :
    - I noticed that it seems that restaurants are more concerned about this reputation problem when they have at least 10-15 reviews. So I will focus on these restaurants.
    - After having talked to someone I know who is working in hotels, it seems that people are more interested in buying a monthly/annually service and not an opt-in service. I didn't expect that. I proposed him to try my service for free in order to see the results : the problem is that he only has great reviews but he has only 5 reviews on Tripadvisor so his hotel is not very well ranked. He told me he would be able to talk of my service to other people.

    Future :
Meeting on Thursday with my 2nd client.
