Hey pals,

I found this expired domain related to Wordpress and I've been thinking what would be profitable and worth it, starting a wordpress hosting company like WpEngine and charge 290$/m, or an affiliate blog talking about best themes, best plugins etc with affiliate links?

I am wondering which would be best, what do you think?

The blog requires articles and backlinks, the other requires affiliates and ads to get the first clients. Which one has the potential to grow and start generating income rapidly?

First, $290/month is a lottt and you'll get a real hard time finding customers. Second, A hosting company can be profitable but you need to consider that you'll have to hire customers support experts (With bachelor degree in IT or CS), you'll need to buy a reseller package for hosting, Cpanel, WHMS etc. But from your question one can guess that you are not even 20% ready to start a hosting company. On the other hand, the affiliate website seems somewhat easy and inexpensive and profitable too, if done right!

OP, did you ever try to set up a hosting?
Trust me, that is a nightmare.

The affiliate blog is going to be a lot easier. Or put it another way, you can put in the same effort and have a really decent blog.

To start a hosting business is going to be hugely expensive and you really need to know what you’re doing.

Well I was going to replicate WpEngine's "Scale" plan which costs $290/m.

I'll only have to get a dedicated server and I'll only host Wordpress websites so I guess it will not be that difficult. The only problem I can see is how to get customers. I'll also limit my number of clients at the beginning until everything is well organized and ready to scale but I guess getting customers is a big challenge :s

PS: 10 clients at $290/m would make me a good income in my country, it will be worth it to handle support tickets and have nightmares :D:D:D
