What is the general concenus on spamming google local pages with user comments and 5 star ratings / reviews to jump ahead of the competition?

Personally I would rather this wasn't possible but since it is possible what should be done about it? Do I have to do it to to compete with other local businesses?

http://getlisted.org/resources/improve-your-reputation.aspx articles suggests that you can get banned on certain local listings for soliciting reviews. Is creating fake reviews acceptable? If not, what do i do on local pages to get ahead of a competitor who is doing this?

Thanks!

I am downloading the Gmaps Cash now from darktony's link here:

So maybe this will have some answers for me. But I would still appreciate responses!

It depends on many things:
How much popular that page is?
How many times google crawl it in a day?
If it has clean record?

Many more facts man.

Like all the other ways of spamming google, be careful. Don't make things look too spammy - they have real people reviewing that part of the site too. It's possible, but unless you're actually promoting a local business it's not terribly useful in the long run.

Use vigilance and care when doing it; It can be rewarding if you sneak them in.

Thanks, tt is a local business! Competitor has 58 reviews, all 5 stars. Google lists about 20 reviews from other sites. I suppose it is more Grey hat to create reviews that were supposedly recieved via email or word of mouth with made up gmail accounts and posting them myself on their local page.

The Gmaps videos sugguests doing it every few days using proxy servers. The proxy servers i found when googling free proxy servers seem problematic though. Any good lists of proxy servers and ways of doing this?

I am also going to promote acquiring direct reviews from customers and work on reviews on other sites.

By Backlinks do you mean "citations"? I was under the impression that reviews helped more than citations?

has anyone had real success with this? I don't mean just getting listed number 1 on the maps (I have done that a few times) but I mean monetizing it? I just am not seeing the traffic you would think gmaps would have. I don't think that many people click on them based on the analytics

I think it is succesful for local companies. HighRankings had an article in one of their newsletters about it being important for national companies as well. I'm not sure if it is reat for affiliate marketing?

Any good proxy websites to use for leaving comments?

I have seen the question asked a few times in a few threads but never any real answers on recommendations of clean proxies for reviews?

Does anyone have real experience using proxies with long term success? If so we would love to hear which company we can get clean proxies from?
