Hi everyone,

I have been trying to understand the difference between social media marketing and SEO when it comes to building long-term traffic.

Social media seems faster for getting attention and engagement, while SEO looks more like a slow but steady approach.

So I am curious:
  • Which one do you think is better for long-term growth?
  • Is it possible to rely only on one, or is a combination necessary?
  • What has worked better for you personally?
I would love to hear real experiences and insights.

If your goal is long-term, I’d advise not relying on just one. SEO tends to compound over time and can bring consistent traffic, while social media is great for quick visibility but can be unpredictable.

Honestly dude, for long-term traffic, seo is the real mvp because it's like owning digital real estate, but you definitely gotta use social media to amplify that content and build a community around it

Most people combine both to achieve the best results. In online business, it’s almost essential to use both approaches together for optimal effectiveness.

In my opinion SEO works better for long-term results because it builds consistent and organic traffic over time.
Social media marketing is useful for quick exposure and engagement but the results can be temporary and depend on algorithms.
The best approach is to combine both. Use social media to drive initial traffic and visibility, and SEO (on-page + off-page) to build long-term authority and rankings. This way you can get both short-term and long-term benefits.

For stable traffic, all methods are good, but they serve different purposes.
SEO is like owning real estate: it takes a long time to build, but it provides passive returns for years. Social media is more like renting attention: it’s great for a quick start, but if you stop posting, the traffic disappears.
That’s why it’s better to combine them.
Use social media for quick feedback while your SEO is 'warming up.' Relying on just one is risky because of algorithm updates.

Both work but for long term results SEO is better.

SEO brings consistent organic traffic over time while social media gives quick but short term results Once you stop posting, traffic drops.

Best approach is to use both but if you’re thinking long term growth SEO wins

I would say, SEO is better for long term, stable traffic, while social media is faster but short lived. Best approach is use both, social for quick reach, SEO for long term growth.

SEO better for long term stable traffic, social media good for fast reach but not consistent, best is using both together for maximum growth.

SEO provides more stability and higher-quality traffic. However, the right marketing approach still depends on the type of product or service you offer.

I think SEO works better for long term growth. As a beginner, what I have learnt, social media gives quick traffic, bvut it doen't last long. I think mixing of both will go better than depending on one thing.

You should combine both. Never reply on one source, because it can just one day all of sudden.

SEO works better for long term because it builds consistent organic traffic and authority over time while social media gives quick but short lived spikes best approach is combining both use social media for reach and SEO for sustainable growth and long term results

I think SEO is better for long term traffic, while social media gives quick results, using both works best.

SEO is stronger for long term growth because it builds consistent organic traffic and authority over time while social media gives quick visibility but fades fast relying on one is limiting best results come from combining both use social media to drive attention and SEO to capture and sustain traffic.

I think SEO is better for long-term since it keeps bringing traffic over time, while social is more short-term spikes. In my experience, a mix works best social for quick boosts and SEO for stability.

seo wins long term it builds organic traffic that sticks while social media is fast but short lived you gotta keep posting to stay visible

On long term I would also say SEO is more mvp than social media ads. However, it also depends on the product you offer.
Sometimes SEO is not that important for your prodcut but clicks on social media ads leverage your return. But with every social media ad it looks like you start from zero again, so you have to keep pushing money into your social media ads.
So good for the short run, but not stable for the long run. Depends on what you're aiming for and what product you offer.

Better for long-term growth?
SEO wins. Ranking on Google brings consistent, passive traffic for months/years. Social from apps like Facebook or TikTok is fast but fades quickly.

• Can you rely on one only?
You can, but it’s risky. SEO alone = slow start. Social alone = unstable (algorithm changes, account risks).

• What works best in practice?
Combination wins:
Use social for instant traffic + brand signals, and SEO for long-term compounding traffic.

Simple strategy: push content on social → drive initial traffic → support SEO rankings → build stable organic growth.
