SOC? Niche finding?

Pardon my ignorance, but SOC means strength of competition correct?

How do I find out this number? Google's keyword tool shows "Competition" but it's referring only to adwords competition I think. The next metric is "global monthly services" and "local monthly services".

Please advise how I determine SOC.

Any other analytics I should use to determine niche?

Is there a good thread or guide on BHW?

Micro niche finder has this feature built-in. I think it's exclusive to the software

If you type the keyword in google with quotation, that will show you exact competition. For example,

"Dog training"

About 14,500,000 results (0.09 seconds)

Here 14,500,000 is the exact competition.

I agree... but an even better way to analyse your competition further would be to Google Search:

allintitle: "Keyword"

If the number is less than 2500, you're good to go.

I just bought micro niche finder, what would be interesting to know is how the program determines SOC.
