I know people who say that they have blogs with hundreds of thousands of visitors and that they built no single backlink to those sites but only published real HQ content. Is this really possible? Can a seo-optimized content that is published based on a strict schedule along with ONLY onpage optimization rank on the top3 and get good traffic?

Yes possible if keywords are super low competitive and your content are highly informative. And you need to publish content regularly to your site and interlink to other existing content.

haha if you ask the geniuses on reddit or the income school idiots, they will say that this is possible lol.

and while it is, its very very rare and typically not the case. i have experienced this first hand, sites with no links get fucking trashed vy every g update.

It's possible but not for very high volume and Highly competitive keywords. I have a new site ranking for lots of keywords in top 50-100 without a single backlink. But the blog has silo structure and has like 70+ articles of 1000-2000 words, maybe that's what did it

Internal linking, relevance and proper on-page SEO can help you rank without link building. Of course, you'll need a lot of articles linked between them if you want to see results.

You can even go for medium keywords... people keep saying you need links but I bet they didn't even try to rank without any link building, so for them, links are the only way to rank.. but obviously, this isn't true

Yes it is possible , but to get that, you need to customize your on pages very well, pick the low competitive keywords and update the HQ content in regular interval, if you done this you may rank your site.

Thank you all for the answers! Most of the replies are pointing out the interlinking? Why is it that essential? There are other op-page seo tactics other than that.

One of the most common assumptions in SEO is that you can't rank a website without building quality backlinks. But, I'm here to tell you that you can. It's definitely possible to rank without backlinks

Any data to substantiate this claim?

I never saw a competitive niche where anyone could rank without backlinks. If this is not a money making competitive niche, yes you can, but there will be not profit, so what's the point?

I'll be a black swan here.
If your super duper content gets no natural links then it's shit. So I don't believe in HQ content which doesn't have a single link.
I do get some natural links (not as many as before) and my content is average.

Thanks for the reply. I meant link "building", of course a good content always gets organic links by time. Especially, if your content contains original images, illustrations, infographics, or even videos, they naturally gain organic links to the page.

First thing ,depends on keywords has to be low competitive and content has to be unique but i would suggest you better to update with some back links that works finally.

Kyle Roof has an interesting theory about your traffic tier. He says that your average monthly organic visits define your "tier" in google's eyes. This tier defines for which keywords you can rank without links.
So if you get 50 visits from google a month you can rank for a 50 search volume keyword without links.
So if you want to rank for a keyword above your tier then you need backlinks.

I think it would be slow, so getting some backlinks to speed it up is better.

Thank you everyone for answers! And as long as this thread got some attention, I would highly appreciate if someone could spare some time and and give your thoughts about the questions on another thread that is lost in the feed.
Related question: articles that were published like 2 or more years ago, performed very well (gained tons of keywords&traffic) then by time slowly kept losing keywords&traffic.

1) Can updating these pages possibly cause a recovery?
2) Can I change the page link? (modern search engine prefers shorter links)
3) Can I change the publishing date manually up-to-date? (actually, it can be considered as "cheating" but the date appears on the search and everyone prefers fresh content)

Thanks for you time in advance.

Yes, you can do it, it just comes down to good keyword research, this is one of my websites (https://gyazo.com/f004b6770b7c465d9522a4c5d19076e8)

As you can see I have 20 links but they are the classic links every website on the web gets when it is scraped by robots, in fact, the DR is almost 0.

In November it earned 800$ dollars, and the first article was published on the 16th March 2020.

To be honest, the traffic in Ahrefs is incorrect, in fact, Analytics shows a higher number (https://gyazo.com/39894044e05a90e58d38dfa01afffa2d)

P.S. the dashboard is not in English but the website targets US traffic.

Yes and No

You can rank with good content + all on-page seo etc, but sooner or later you will be pushed down from SERP to no where ! I have seen certain sites sits on first page of google but later disappear from first page!!!

also you can't get thousands of visits based on only quality content + on-page seo , you will get decent amount of traffic and stuck there for months unless you do some off page (links, guest post , social media , blah blah ) ... you definitely need (high quality) links to stay on first page of google and a ton of traffic.
