About time somebody put those lazy site owners straight
I no longer even look at the "review my site please" threads - I just got sick of seeing the same on-site mistakes over and over again
Some people can't even set up a wordpress blog correctly - they deserve to fail!

I fully realise this when it comes to one of my "BH" sites - each post contains barely any content. I used this site while following a method shared on here last year and I didn't really make a good enough plan when it came to content - mainly because I was busy with studies and didn't have enough $$$ to outsource.
Since I'm on study break, I'm thinking of editing every one of the 254 posts and adding at least 300-400 words over a few weeks. I still get a lot of visits from search engines, and my bounce rates are average, but content really is king and I should have planned it right from the outset.
I also seen that someone shared something that was able to rip stuff from IMDB - I couldn't get it to scrape any content for some reason (it just said "Navigating to IMDB" for 3 hours and done nothing). If this had spinning built into it (spinning each movie content), and it could actually work, I'd be able to add the 76k odd words alot quicker

Always enjoyed scritty posts, this is everything you need about running a proper seo campaign on your site, and yes I do get clients with duplicate contents, and this seems to occur alot with mostly local client who cant be bother to write their own content but copy off thier other plumber competitors.
And your right where you say anchor diversity, not only do you have to work on anchor diversity, you really have to get your brand out there, I got pulled up one day when a client saw that 80 percent of his links are brands, naked url, click here etc, saying that wasn't what he paid for.
I tried to convince him that we need his links to appear natural, alot of people are still making mistakes like this, thinking they wasting there money by building link in a natural way.
My advice if your new to seo, print this page and read and read over again so you don't make same mistake someone of us did in panda and penguin era.

It's all "basic" SEO stuff, but because it's so different compare to the SEO techniques only a few months ago many people don't don't know the value of content.

If you have one site - a local one with little competition, then yes - links should be a very secondary consideration.
For most though - links are still VITAL.
But they have to be made the right way. Platform variation, anchor variation, content for context, a sensible number of links, deep linking....
If you have a lot of sites or lots of competition (or hard competition) or a big site you want to rank lots or internetal URL's for, then gaining links is essential for good ranking.
The way I see some people go about it like it's 2010 all over again..

Oh dear, i pmed you on the demondemon.com forum recently about a site, a site related to Facebook.
In my defence, there are mitigating circumstances for my site if you feel it is "rubbish".
Some factors to consider;
I spent a fair amount of time ensuring the on-page factors of this site are up to scratch, apart from some minor copied content(unavoidable but not a problem for this site) from many other sites and an overly large on-page linking structure the site is very effective at ranking in Google. I crafted each category page individually with some very good keyword research. I'm already page 2 for some very good terms and continuing to move up despite having low backlink profile. In fact, the reason i pmed you was because i wanted toknow if you had know;edge of monetising this sort of site, there's not much else i can do for SEO benefit.
Sometimes, a very simple site isn't rubbish, in fact, i often see "rubbish" sites doing very well, not just in terms of Google, but conversions too.
I'd be itnerested in what you thought of the site i messaged you with.

- Niche - Niche topic determines and restricts how some sites develop
- Experimentation - Some sites are simply thrown up to see how they react in an experiment
- Plagarism - Some sites are based on others content and will be logistically unable to create enough new content

Lol - it wasn't yours mate. None of them were . These were all looked at well after I looked at your site (weeks later)
Fact is my inboxes on forums like this are normally choc-a-bloc full of people asking me to take a look., some days I get 10 or more requests, and to do it properly it'd be a full time (unpaid) job.
I do have membership sites though, so if people do me the courtesy of joining and contributing, then I try and help out (as you know mate)
I'm setting myself a "5 minute rule" though for unpaid work. I have the tools ready. Onsite analysis, link analysis and competition analysis, I set the tools off (takes 2 minutes) and when they come back with their reports I check through them for a minute or two and summarize the findings.
Once you've gone through the process 50x in a month it's pretty easy. But I won't be doing the real in depth stuff and micro analysis in most cases, there just aren't enough hours in the day.
Your site was ok. Strange in some respects - but the link profile was better than most I see and the site itself had good layout and navigation (and canonical architecture) which is a fuck of a lot better than most I get to see.

Thank you for the valuable information you have put to us in here, I learned alot, I have a young site with good content, and I am using good anchor texts for backlinking, 60% of them are 'click here, visit us, read more'
My only problem that I try to learn more about is the onsite seo, where I have yet to be a good, or even decent at choosing where or how to put keywords inside the content, sometimes I can't fit them in to keep making the article look normal, I even don't know how to exactly choose keywords, some words would appear "Low competition" in keyword tools, but I think its hard to rank for them, I'm still learning and now I started using some addons/helpers. I recently bought keyword winner, is this addon recommended by you?

Likelihood is you still need links to rank for commercial terms of any type. Where you can rank quickly is brand new terms (I have a video of getting a post to number one for "delayed rank transition" worldwide inside 10 minutes) seems like a great feat - but in fact until that morning the phrase had never existed - so it was more of a party trick than anything.
If the phrase is known and commercial then onsite SEO alone almost definitely is not enough and you are going to need to plan out and executce a sensible and appropriate linking campaign to support it.
