Scammers....

One of my potential clients became a victim of identity theft at Skype. There are multiple people mention on my sales thread that they have contacted by multiple me.geek (my skype) IDs on their Skype. When I simply search my ID this is what I see:

My real ID is not there interestingly.

I was talking with @ron.ray and found that he also has an impersonator already even though he doesn't even have a sales thread!

Here is a list of impersonators of @tomcatplayer (I am sharing his ID because he is a seller and it is already public in the forum). I had talked with the wrong guy earlier.

So here is the simple thing to find out the real guy/real ID before you send your money or makes deal with someone. LOOK FOR THE SKYPE ID.

The Skype ID must be showing with the Skype Icon.

You can also click on the profile and look for the Skype ID. If it is different there, you are talking with the wrong guy.

Sounds simple, right? I know, but it seems many of us are ignoring this.

Let's beat these cheaters with our due diligence.

Take care of this simple thing next time and check you may also have some impersonators already. :)

And of course, cross-check on the forum that you are talking with the same person.

Stay safe.

Just don't pay with Bitcoin and ask for an invoice. Pay with bank transfer, check their business details, and you're good to go.
The fact that almost all sellers on this forum work without invoices still amaze me.

This happens to me as well, I have contacted them via some other skype account, they charged $150 for Forbes.com but the original price is $2000+, They simply take money from clients and disappear.

They take payment via BTC or skrill only, so that the buyer cannot make any dispute.

There are lot of scammers using fake Skype profiles.

Always use skype link in your profile/sales thread/PM, so that they can click and connect with you directly.

They never send Invoice or accept for Bank transfer, I found a fake skype account guy who is from Singapore.
Seriously they are irritating me :(

Don't think it works that way. You can't push people to give away their real identities every time.

like this

This is a good idea. Implementing this now.

Why would you deal with someone that has stuff to hide? We are all legitimate companies in an online world.
well said, If they don't want to share their company/freelancer details why should we want to deal with them.

If we still wait to use their service, you should pay only with Paypal.

Thanks for bringing this up, it may help some people.

It happened to me too and I even opened a thread about it some time ago. Some low-life scammer did this and one guy got scammed and thought it was me, ending up even opening a SL thread against me because he paid the wrong guy with bitcoin. He just made my Skype similar and this buyer thought it was me :( I cannot stress this enough but to always confirm these type of things before sending off payments and confirm also via BHW that they are the same sellers.

It's pathetic what type of scams these miserable people are pulling.

I have two accounts similar to what my Skype id is. I came to know about this when a client of mine told that someone contacted him regarding the service in skype from my ID. He even has my location right along with profile picture copied every time I change it. That's why I prefer to keep my business here in BHW.
