Sites Gone? Google Update? WTF

Just a little quick update, earlier today when I checked my site with Rank Tracker it was not in Top 100. Since I was targeting these keywords, and also checked for other keywords No rankings could be found.
But now I have checked my site is back, with one step improvement, not sure if its gonna stay that way or not but at least now I can breath normally.

Everyone needs to chill.
The recent changes were based upon sites that used or were found related to "backlink networks" - usually large private blog networks.

If you use a private blog network, a service that you had done used a blog network to rank you, or your site was associated with a blog network in some form, then you were affected.

Now...
To my knowledge, none of these sites were de-indexed, but were just hit with a keyword ban.

They did this in a "wave" or a "blast". Meaning that it's not part of their algorithm. They did it this way so that you are not able to bowl down your competition. And they will continue to do this as needed. So I would highly recommend staying away from any services that are offering "private networks" as part of their backlink strategy.

With that said...this is probably what is going on...
1. BigG hit your site(s) with keyword bans
2. These bans are set for a period of time rather than indefinitely
3. You site will be seen as a "potential threat" for an extended period of time due to this
4. This is not indefinite, so your sites will show back up again. However, don't count on your rankings being anything short of crap.
5. Use web 2.0 sites and video sites to sell your "stuff", in the end this will also rank your "money sites" when they come back online as well. BigG is giving high priority on these area's at the moment, so take advantage of it.

I just had a live chat with their tech staff, asked if they were receiving similar complaints/ seeing patterns to suggest IP banning. He said that I was the first... He also recommended a class C IP, saying that google treats them differently. I don't know what class my current server IP is, but if all this doesn't magically fix itself in the next week or 2, I'm going to upgrade and start afresh/major clean up of sites...

He's just trying to make a sale. Google doesn't care what IP your site is on.

In other words, Google doesn't every say "hey, look at this website on x IP address. I'm going to penalize it, but if he was on y IP address he would rank much higher."

What have you based these assumptions on?
 
Same thing happened to one of my clients yesterday between 3am and 10am CST. It's back now. Very weird.
 
now i can check all rankings and can confirm that all came back and some even stronger
 
At least one of my sites is back, albeit in position #3 instead of position #2. Hooray!

edit - another site is back in position #10 instead of 9.
 
The affected sites are back to their former pageranks. You can check up your keywords on google to confirm. I am so happy that my sites have retained the number one positions for the keywords they rank high for.

Wow! I'm back also!!!!!!! Sickest google dance EVER. Both my #1's are back & my #2 I did drop from #3 to #5 for one thing but who gives a fuck. Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Well I am not so lucky yet, but I had not experienced the disappearing act that most of you have...until now...LOL. I went from 5 to 65 or so and now gone all together but just checking the top 80 results via TT.

On page 1 is a bunch of crap Tumblr, blogger, livejournal blogs and the like. I put a new article up, non keyword focused, built backlinks to the inner page and am now in process of building a very small white hat 5 web 2.0 property mini pyramid with each having 1 400 word article with related terms and social bookmarks to back them up. I also added some images from the site to a few of my Tumblr blogs with PR3 pagerank, I figure if they love these web 2.0's so much for now, I am going to give them links back to my site from a few of them. Oh I also blocked my "tag" pages from being indexed to avoid any dup content issues, had not done so early on but figured it would be a good time to get that done right about now. :)

I too think it is just some odd dance and that it will come back eventually, which I hope because in the few days it hit page 1 it had already earned me about $150. I project if it can get back there it can deliver $750-$1000 p/month on autopilot for me.

I have a number of local based clients. Over half of them took MASSIVE dives, we're talking 100-150+ keywords dropping from first page to no man's land. I've been hammering at them with links, and almost all of them have recovered and actually gained rankings.

My advice, don't shoot yourself just yet.

IMO It's definitely a progressive update so no need to panic guys. It's just taking some time to roll out across all the different datacenters.

I had a heart attack when my oldest client called me to tell me that they had dropped onto page 6 from the number 2 spot. I have about 30 local SEO clients right now and I just haven't had time to fix them all of them right now but dropping was pretty common. I've done absolutely nothing to a lot of the client sites and most of them are actually ranking higher after this giant dance after a week in no man's land. I think it will be mostly back to normal in a few days.
