Sites Gone? Google Update? WTF

Shit's also happening in the local searches. 3 COMPLETELY irrelevant pages (COMPLETELY different service niche) showed up on page one for a fairly competitive term.

This is a well thought out post, but I want to include my info in your assumptions to see where the correlations areAlso to note that the rankings are varying WILDLY for some of the terms, for a term that is not that important to me but I still track I have gone from 50 to 13 to nowhere back to 13 all in 3 or 4 days, also my main keywords have dropped from page 1 to 60-70 or so but almost every day it is a different page ranking at that spot. It is almost as if Google has freaked out a bit. Oddly enough other sites have remained stable, others dropped a very small amount and others had improvements...so there seems to be no rhyme or reason.

BTW no or limited blog network posts.

There is no perfect explanation. Their algorithm has so many variables that whatever explanation someone comes up with can always be disproved. What is clear is that traditional quick, easy, cheap SEO has gone out the window. This is what happens when one company has too much information. They should not be allowed to have all the information they have. And the result is a monopoly. They are basically dictating to the world how a website should be built, which is wrong.

The problem is that if you build a great site, unique content, etc... but you don't build backlinks to it how in the world will the world find out about the site. They won't unless you get lucky.

Bing and Yahoo rank sites (in my opinion) based on the quantity of backlinks as a major factor. Even if your site sucks in Google, you can rank highly in the other search engines by using traditional SEO methods. Problem as we all know is that 70%+ of searches happen on Google.

What is not fair is that historically Google ranked sites based on certain premises... so people spend their time and money focusing on these premises to build up their sites. Now Google has flipped a switched and everything you worked for gets destroyed yet Google is still there rolling along making billions of dollars. They think they are God of the internet.

Actually I think both of your theories are true.

They run out of ideas to increase revenue but to put larger ad blocks, push down organic search results, etc. Those in return will decrease user experience. Do that enough, and people will start fleeing to Bing. Thus they are killing themselves.

Most of my sites are dropping and dropping... with some I never built backlinks and they were all natural. Mostly original content. All dropping. No idea what g00gle is doing.

The penalty is slowling wearing from my sites. I had to do some hardcore stuff the last 3 weeks, but i'm still hanging by a thread. Google doesn't realize what they've done. Some of the most under optimized sites for my niche are now ranking in the top 3 spots where i used to sit. Just keep building quality content and hope for the best.

The penalty I received on Feb 17th seems to be slowly wearing off too...Tomorrow will be 60 days since my penalty...I really hope I only have 30 more days of this crap...

I have spent a few thousand dollars to try to break out of this and some results are starting to show, this next month will be very important to see what happens...

My site actually went up today, so I am glad for this...sorry to hear about the other people here who have lost some rankings...i sympathize with you guys as I had the same thing happen a little while ago...

The really strange thing is, my drop started exactly on Friday 13th. Two Top5 rankings to #30 (lower search volume) and #80 (higher search volume). The date seems like a kind of the typical google humor to me. The even numbers of the rankings are suspicious, too.

Is the consensus still that this is basically affecting fairly new websites??

Thankfully, I haven't seen any of my sites affected. I try my best to keep diverse keyword profiles, lots of link sources, and basically tread carefully in my link-building efforts...even while using some of the common tools of the trade. (senuke, SB, AMR..ect). I've got 100's of sites, and am lightly using a private BLN, and they do still help rankings.

Am hoping all of your rankings return by tomorrow. What a dumb move by the big G - I can see so many irrelevant results showing up... it's not even funny.

Keep your heads up guys!

My sites starting dropping around the 10th-11th this month they had been been ranking for months.

Is this because of the Panda 3.4 algo update.. If so then I got hit pretty hard to on one of my niche weight loss sites. Went from #4 to #86 wtf!!

Now I guess its time to work on my Google Slap offense.

Me and several of the people I talk to all saw their rankings go bye bye too. This is a pretty serious shift and it's gotta be backlink related.

Wow, that's even better than what I was doing. Crazy...

By the way: It cant be diversity! Used about 40 to 50 relevant LSI keywords as anchor and multiple different resources.

I have 4 sites all using the exact same tools, linking strategies, etc 3 out of 4 are fine. 1 vanished for 4 out of 5 keywords so I cant imagine that is the case.

What the hell? My sites are gone.. I don't see any on google anymore. I"m screwed.. WTF......

Also my sites never got the webmasters tool message alot of people got so I'm sill unsure why I lost the rankings. Hoping its just a fluke and our sites come back.

I'm all depressed right now. I think I'll spend the rest of the day watching anime...... I quit. good bye internet marketing....

Nah, I can't quit... but I wish I didn't have to rely on google so much...

Ok, but did you use any 'stupid' keywords that you would normally find people using... like "view here" or "look at this" or common dumb phrases? I think this is a very big indicator to Google when all anchor text is a specific keyword that relates to the site. People aren't smart enough to ALWAYS use good keyword anchor text phrases.

It's either over optimization or devaluation both covered in this http://www.blackhatworld.com/blackhat-seo/black-hat-seo/424148-guide-dealing-over-optimization-sky-isnt-falling.html
