Sites Gone? Google Update? WTF

really hard to draw a picture here...
some lost spammy webs
some lost authority
some lost of content some lost of links
hard to get why this shit happened.

Is this an update or was there a straight up error? I don't even understand how this could happen with my one site, which was Number 1 for its term as I had great onsite SEO, all links were manual great content links, and i updated it twice DAILY with fresh content including links from other people guest blogging about their quality site from mine. Bizarre...

This happen to me once but after some days it came back :S

Weird thing is I do the same SEO for 4 sites and only 1 got crushed. The other 3 are fine. Site is not deindexed and the content on it is though not fresh is legit content. This is the first time this has ever happened to me. Doesnt matt cutts usually talk about the algo changes publicly or at least give hints? What is the common way of recovering? Just build more backlinks?

Also I lost #1 for an emd which literally has zero competition. Wow!

I lost some my main keyword dropped from 2 on page 1 to 350 and some others dropped to under 300 but some others are up and others have not moved. I am working more on traffic from Facebook and YouTube so if Google totally fucks me I will hopefully still be ok its working well at the moment. One keyword I have not worked on much has moved from 7 to 4 I have a feeling it could maybe be 2.0s that have blasted with scrapebox I its just a guess but they did say they was trying to stop the spamy links and that could be it.

never used private networks in the sites that lost position...

An old site which I switched the domain to just be a redirect is now showing up like crazy and I am suddenly getting tons of Google Alerts about new content on that page, despite the fact it doesn't actually exist now....sort of..? I am thinking this has to be a glitch somehow...

It would be cool if there panda update did have a big glitch and mess Google up lol.

I suggest you guys start using more of the related keywords (lsi keywords).. check them with the google keyword tool and sort them by highest search volume. Use the top 20 related keywords and create good articles around them. (keyword density 1 to 4%) Post these manual written articles to high pr do-follow blogs. Also post up how-to videos to the big video sites using the same keywords. Google loves video content, its nothing new. You can make them with animoto or use something like Sony Vegas. Try to make them HD when you post them and include your keywords in the tags and the title. Make an alternative description with your link. Throw your keyword into SB and generate related keywords per keyword. Start harvest URL's and sort them by PR. Comment on the high PR blogs manually to make your comments sticky. Use the article URLs in the comment post. Blast the rest of the URL's. Repeat process for each keyword. Repeat this process for about a week and then start to do posts directly to your moneysite. Use Wiki and Edu URL's for this. Add as much authority to your site as you can think of. Google is getting smarter and smarter, we need to think steps ahead. Also, adding a drip and feed tactic to your blog or site will work wonders. Use the LSI keywords as titles and H1 tags. Make the content educational. Just a few tips, hope some of it will help out Cheers

Yer lol Google has been doing my head in for the last week I really don't no what is going on at the moment. I am starting to get a nice amount of traffic from YouTube now tho.

So is the standard advice just continue building backlinks?

I agree I hope it's some kind of error... There doesn't seem to be any sort of rhyme or reason to it. I have a third site that has almost no links to it and has a tone of quality content on there that is updated often that was knocked out of the top 100 for every keyword.

Mine dropped as well, bunch of crappy web 2.0 and a few large authority sites now take over. Really google? The top results now a worst then before!

I start to think that G is trying ti kill itself!

I would definitely say NO. This is an entirely new situation and from what you can read in this thread so far, no links seems to be safe at the moment. New situation needs new solutions... Still, none solution in my head at the moment.
