Your score would be off the roof if you used BROTLI compression with HTTP2.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned cloudflare to this guy?

Try implementing free cloudflare it will speed you up proper.

The first thing you have to do is upgrade your hosting package to premium. This will do 70% of page speed job. Secondly incorporate a cdn. i use maxcdn which is paid but cloudfare will do. Another important factor can be your theme. A heavily bloated theme will reduce performance. Another thing you can do is compress your images. I have applied all these on my site and i have 100 page speed on desktop and 98 for mobile.
