Site Flipping 101

Around 9pm GMT on a Saturday works well - bid wise, haven't really noticed a trend but most of mine seem to come 12-4am GMT which I presume is just before the US go to bed.

Hey Meathead:

Thanks for starting this thread. I'm working on a few sites to sell on flippa (first time). I have a question concerning themes. I've done a lot of modifying on the studiopress church theme. Should I still get a developer license?
 
If you plan on selling regularly I would recommend a developers license. I personally have an account at dream template (50 bucks a year) but I don't think it matters what you use as long as it is professional.

In the past I've been left negative feedback as I've sold "custom wordpress" themes which were regular templates heavily modified so barely recognisable as the original. There's always a risk, depends on the buyer and how they interpret your auction wording.

If you want to sell new sites at a premium I would always go with something unique as it adds a lot of value.

The site I'm working on is w3.breakthehabit-smoking.com. This is the first blog I've done specifically to sell. Not sure if it's ready to list or not. Any feeback would be most welcome.
 
Looks nice. My only feedback would be add an opt in list/newsletter/free ebook on the top right - tends to be standard with most similar sales.

Once you've done that - get it on Flippa. Time is money. $297 would be a good price. Write 10 unique articles. Offer to host it etc.

What theme are you using?

Also the header did you make that yourself?
 
Theme is our modified version of studiopress church theme. We did the header too.
The slider was setup to link directly to sponsors instead of a post and we addded more widgets to the bottom of the template.
 
great share .... btw what happens if site hosted in free hosting?

If you own the domain it doesnt really matter where it is hosted, although at 5 bucks a month for hostgator you've got no excuse not to pay :)

If you mean selling a site on a free domain (ie a blogspot) I've got no idea to be honest, but it wont sell for much
 
I am In a web site flipping course right now they say i am about half way done with my site. Im wondering if you flippers will take a look at it and tell me what i should expect from it when i finish it and list it. I know the ads and video on the side bar is still to big to fit (were supposed to fix it in the next lesson) http://www.huntingpath dot com..... tell me what i might expect $$ wise when its done.

I actually lice the minimalistic simple design it's soothing on the eyes, but here is some things I have to mention:

all the stuff in the left colum goes out of the frames. Try and see if you can do something about that ;).

Also I can see it isn't unique articles.

But it seems like you use some sort of scraper for article directories?

And if yes I would love to know the name can't remember what one of those are called and could really use it:D
 
Hey thanks for the comments. I am aware that the stuff in the left sidebar is out of whack but i am supposed to learn to fix it tomorrow. I just went to enzen articles to get them and I am planning on spinning them before i list the site so I can claim it to be unique. P.S when you guys check the site out fell free to give me some adsense clicks :0) Ive never earned a cent from them.lol

My two cents

1) Offering Hosting on lower end and starter sites is a great way to add upto 10% to your year end profit and is often overlooked. Sell the buyer on the advantages of not having to go through the transfer process, and not having Google see a change in the server's IP

2) If you flip on a regular basis, create a template manual that you can enter site specific info into and send to your buyers to prevent having to re answer many of the newbie questions. We'll have a template on our blog soon at flipfilter .com

Mind explaining why this is? I personally haven't had any problems selling sites that can be found in search engines.

Sure, maybe I wasn't so clear.

If I buy a site on DP for the purpose of a quick, generally that auction will get indexed on page one of Google/Yahoo/Bing.

So if I search in Google: sitetosell.com it will come up as the auction and they can see what you paid for it etc

I like to ensure that any other auctions have dropped off page one before listing on Flippa.

Hope that makes a bit more sense.

Would anyone be able to show a site they have bought and sold for higher and explain exactly what they have done to make it more profitable? I would love a case study like that.

Most of mine are now slightly higher end $XXXX+ and I always have an NDA signed so you won't find many people who will show your their deals (except "gurus" who prob make jack-shit anyway).

If you PM me I can probably give you a few examples, but don't want my account details all over a public forum :)
