I have a blog on Facebook games which I really wanted to go viral on Facebook. After setting out a simple strategy, it is now snowballing quite well and every day I seem to accrue even more likes than the last. I now get about 15-30 likes per day and it keeps increasing. The point about this method is that the likes are targeted visitors. They are people who are either converted from Google searches or have clicked the like button in Facebook after checking out the site. So their value is very high. The first thing you have to do is make sure that the content of your website is something that can go viral. There's no point trying to make a post about golf tips or acne treatments go viral. It is just not going to work(in my opinion!). What I did was start a competition where I give away free Facebook credit gift cards. My users are Facebook addicts and will love to spend these in games. The competition is genuine, I went out and spent £50($100) on Facebook credit gift cards. This worked to a certain extent but I needed people to share the competition page and gain exposure. To do this I found a good plugin for wordpress called "Like lock" Once installed, you simply place [like-lock] [/like-lock] tags around the content you want to lock and the page will display a blue box with some text and a like button. In order to reveal the content, users have to press the like button. As far as I can tell, not only does it like the page but it shares the content on the user's Facebook page. So now my competition is getting exposure directly on people's Facebook. I changed the text in the blue box asking them to click the like button in order to enter the competition. You can find like-lock here Code: http://xxx.cliconomics.c0m/download7254/like-lock.zip http://xxx.fileserve.c0m/file/2mmmtkc I also added a popup to my site. It is a simple lightbox type popup and i'm using a free version. I first noticed it on the Farmville Freak blog. I inspected the code and found out it was called "wp super popup". You can find it in the plugins section of wordpress for free. There is a pro version but for my needs right now i'm only using the free version. I set the popup to display after 7 seconds. I did this because I want people to get a full scan of the site and then hopefully when the popup display, they will be interested enough to click like. I was going to display it on 1-3 seconds but I feel that people likely to bounce on the site will be more inclined to if I force a popup on them straight away and this might include people who would have actually liked my page if I gave them a chance to see my content. At first, I wasn't getting many likes, but after a week it snowballed quite rapidly and now it seems like I get a new like everytime I refresh the page. (Just checked the site and I gained exactly 10 likes in the few minutes it took to write this post) I think this is possibly one the most natural and effective way of becoming viral. If anyone has other ideas to add to this method to make it better then please share. I'd love to improve it in some way.
