So my rankings just took a hit today, but I think this is probably because I've built quite a few links over the last week or so. At the same time, it appears that there was an algo update on the 7th according to SER but that is a pretty shit source for any real SEO. Can anyone confirm?

Wait... so you guys are actually getting organic traffic and real people engaging with your PBN sites?! That sounds like a crazy amount of work, considering that you need a ton of them to rank your money site. Forgive me, I've still very new to all this. Do you just buy a smaller number of super-powerful domains and spend all your time building and updating them?

Ok, so PBNs are dead for real this time? People have been saying this for years but they still are the backbone of all real SEO. Maybe you're right, I don't know. I do know that I've been lurking around here since the beginning of 2015 and every other post on the board back then was also "LOL, PBNs are over!"

Haha, ok ok I get it... people don't bother checking domain history and wonder why their shit is flagged. Then they make up some big conspiracy about how Google just flipped a switch and shut down all PBN networks.

Exactly, the other possible reason can be that domains in question don't have enough quality links. The domain can have high TF, DA or DR but all the links can come from a single ScrapeBox blast. These metrics are just a guide, but everything else is a manual job.

I registered an expired domain 3 months ago. It was not aware to me that it was an expired. My intention was to create a great website, no PBN. It had no backlinks and a wayback search shows that it just was used as a 301. I released that website 2 months ago with 9 pages with very hq content. Now, 2 months later, still 2 of them got not indexed. The front page has 4500 words. All sub pages at least 1500. I had no single visitor from google. I could never explain why. Until I read elsewhere that expireds are now in a sandbox for a while.

Expired domains are not in Sandbox. And if you "read it somewhere", please, specify where.
I am fairly sure that the domain you purchased had a terrible history and not just random 301 redirect. I would also put my money on the fact that it was an EMD.

Similarly people building thousands of backlinks using the same anchor text, all pointing to their homepage and then jump on the "PBN's are dead" bandwagon, as soon as their sites get hit with over-optimization penalties...

No. They're not. A PBN is a regular website. Google is never ever going to penalize a PBN. They will penalize a website that is used for link manipulation. But never a PBN. If you make it a real site, you'll be fine.
