I just realized that from a small authority site I have the .net domain is available with pretty good metrics. Should I buy and redirect the net to com domain, or should I make a new site on the .net linking to the com?

If its clean, has ok metrics (metrics are mostly BS though) and have GOOD LINKS then you can 301 it assuming you haven't already 301'ed a shit load before to this site.
