I would just like to add, you shouldn't be betting everything on 1 or 2 websites. You should have several websites set-up with a different strategy for each. This way, when updates come you won't be completely wiped out.

Black Hat is not good technique of SEO only go for White Hat SEO.
How come White Hat SEO is costing you?? Black Hat SEO will cost you more than White Hat SEO.. So I would suggest don't go for Black Hat SEO.
Write Blogs and use keywords of your websites.
Forums plays an important role in ranking your website higher on search engines.
Directories and Social Bookmarking are also effective methods.
But do everything on your own if you have knowledge of SEO and its techniques/tools.

Black hat SEO is not advised at all for long term benefits.. If you can afford white Hat SEO just keep using it.. Ultimately white hat is cheaper than black hat..

Don't do it, its not worth it because all the effort you have put in to build a content rich website will pretty much be void once they get you for it.
