I would just like to add, you shouldn't be betting everything on 1 or 2 websites. You should have several websites set-up with a different strategy for each. This way, when updates come you won't be completely wiped out.

How come White Hat SEO is costing you?? Black Hat SEO will cost you more than White Hat SEO.. So I would suggest don't go for Black Hat SEO.

Write Blogs and use keywords of your websites.
Forums plays an important role in ranking your website higher on search engines.
Directories and Social Bookmarking are also effective methods.

But do everything on your own if you have knowledge of SEO and its techniques/tools.

But what to do in the niches where it is not possible to use White Hat?
For example in gambling or adult websites, no one wants to link to your website...
I'm new to SEO that is why I'm trying to figure it out.

Jeepers....this is insane. I have to post this every week now.

White Hat = No links. Everything is by Webmaster Rules. You can't build a web 2.0. You can pay another webmaster for a link. You cant ask for links. You cant post in a forum with your link in your signature. This is ALL link building. You cant do any of it.

Black Hat = Building or buying links in any context.

You are paying someone for black hat and they are lying to you and calling it 'white hat', which is not true in any extent of the words.

If you SPAM, a sub set of black hat, you may rank and tank. But more often than not, they last around a year. If you go more stable, and build higher quality and value links, you skate by.

Look for the best bang for your buck with the best SEO you can find. Anything else is garbage.

Don't do it, its not worth it because all the effort you have put in to build a content rich website will pretty much be void once they get you for it.
