Should I buy a website that’s been hit by google update?

I’ve recently stumbled upon a competitor in my niche with a very good looking website from a design perspective as well as from a content perspective.

It’s DA isn’t that high, but the website has been around for 3-4 years and has 90-100 good quality articles.

When I checked the traffic however, I had a shock seeing it only bags around 100 clicks per month (according to semrush).

The traffic fell from 4-5k to low hundreds after the may update and the september one.

Is it a good idea to try and buy such a website?
Maybe the webmaster is pissed and doesn’t want to work on it anymore after what the update has done to him. That could mean I could get a good deal on it if he is willing to sell.

I don’t care about the backlink, I genuinely want to bring the website back on it’s feet.

Do such websites ever recover from this kind of mess?

Depends what caused it, & its possible to bring it back

Depends on the price i guess. It’s difficult to know what caused the traffic to tank. You’ll have to check whether all the pages are hit or just some. If only some, then it might be worth while as it could be some issue with the content itself, like too long, too many fillers, fluff, etc. Fix these and you might strike gold but it won’t be a quick recovery.
