Not asking the OP directly but just the BHW community, how do you host all these sites? Do you just make a hosting account for each? And what would the best way to contact the businesses?

Are the websites live? I don't know how to make a WordPress site so it isn't automatically live.

Congrats! So you are making themes that are ready for e-commerce? What plugin for that are you using?
For me using WordPress; WooCommerce & Easy Digital Download.

I am not hosting those sites.
But, we could use Reseller Hosting Plan, VPS or even dedicated box to host those sites.
Contacting method is depend on the business types as well as business environment in each country.

I don't really understand what you mean!

That is awesome to hear. I was wondering to make websites upfront or not due to loss of time and money.

Hello yeah dude!

I actually thought about this too! Shit... I might actually do this.

Congrats on your success. Nice method. I have a question. Is this possible to do this method online?

Allright, ever tried WP e-commerce? It's pretty ass trying to look for documentation on that stuff. Can we have a sample of a site you made?

Why not! I can't say it will work or not, but the only way is to try out!

WP E-Commerce, I've never used it because I'm satisfy with WooComerce and it does it job for me well so there's no need to use other one.
I've already put one of my site in my previous reply in the thread. It's not e-commerce website. Other than that I could not show for client's privacy.

Awesome OP!

I have been a long time lurker but never commented on here, but I wanted to comment on this. I flip websites on Flippa but I love making websites for small businesses. I would love to do this online. My question to you is if you don't mind. Could you share what you tell potential customers? How do you pitch them? I would love to learn some nuggets and create and tweak my own script.

Many Thanks!

Potential customers for me are the businesses who had their own website for their businesses. In addition, I always make sure that they paid for their websites built by agency not their own free own.
Look through their current website and note the mistakes and pitch new improvement one for them.
I've already mentioned in my previous replies how I pitch them.

This always worked, still works and will continue to do so. I have made money too with this but not as big as you did, because in my country the local businesses pay you lesser. Glad to know you are making some decent money with it. Keep up the good work :)

Hi Vanrity

This post has inspired me and I am going to be driving around my local towns this weekend and doing some research into their current sites. I will then use your method of building them a website on a subdomain and trying to convince that mine is better!

How are you getting on, Vanrithy?

Past couple days I made action on this.

Small, but prosperous businesses were my target. I looked on yelp to get a good idea of which ones those were and if they didn't have a site already. So, I found a restaurant with like 90 reviews and with not even a menu uploaded. I built them a beautiful website complete with their menu, contact info, maps, etc. and the next day I walked in to their restaurant and asked to speak with the owner. However, the owner wasnt in. Not the 1st or 2nd time. I left a name and number and a url to their new website. I'm still waiting to hear back..

That was pretty depressing. Afterwards, I just started cold calling businesses instead. Within an hour, I found a client. I charged $95 and probably spent 6 hours on it.

??? This catches me by surprise. I assumed you have a VPS and put each prospect's website in a subdirectory. That's what I do, anyway. If not your own server, where are you placing these sites, if I may ask? Thank you.
