Shit! This method is working for me

??? This catches me by surprise. I assumed you have a VPS and put each prospect's website in a subdirectory. That's what I do, anyway. If not your own server, where are you placing these sites, if I may ask? Thank you.

I meaned that I am not selling or hosting those sites when they bought from me.
For presentation, I use sub-folders to temporarily host the sites to show to clients.

What about hosting and domains? they're going to pay you monthly?

As I mostly target businesses that already have website, I just use theirs.
When the time is right, I will upsell them with mines.

Hey thanks for sharing, I'm trying to do this myself now.

I went for a walk in my city and just googled every shop I saw and saved the info, got about ~20 potential customers now. My plan was to write a short list of things that are bad, and then create a quick mockup of a design in photoshop of how it "could" look like if it was redone by me, to show a certain guideline. I am just wondering, I don't want to make it too detailed or spend too much time on it for nothing, I was wondering if that effort before contacting them was an obivous boost in your success rate? Also did you have any customer complain for using their material, such as logo for your quick preview?

Thanks for sharing mate!

For me, the functioning and interactive websites are working very well. The clients could see and feel what they will get. It's a big advantage for me over others. Mostly, other people just don't want to waste time and just make mockup. I see it's a big plus for me.

Most of the small businesses here just don't mind with that as long as I tell them that I will remove their materials completely if don't buy it. That's it!

Going to get the ball rolling on this very soon shall keep you all updated on the progress!

Not asking the OP directly but just the BHW community, how do you host all these sites? Do you just make a hosting account for each? And what would the best way to contact the businesses?

Use WP multisite.

I found a restaurant with like 90 reviews and with not even a menu uploaded. I built them a beautiful website complete with their menu, contact info, maps, etc. and the next day I walked in to their restaurant and asked to speak with the owner. However, the owner wasnt in. Not the 1st or 2nd time. I left a name and number and a url to their new website. I'm still waiting to hear back..

That was pretty depressing. Afterwards, I just started cold calling businesses instead. Within an hour, I found a client. I charged $95 and probably spent 6 hours on it.

You targeted one business and failed. If you read OP's post, I guarantee he fails more than he succeeds, this is a numbers game. Target 100 businesses and if you close 20, that's a great closing percentage.

I don't know what country you're in, but you earned $95 in 6 hours of work, which is about $15 per hour. That doesn't include the previous failed client, organizing the list of other businesses, going to the restaurant twice, etc. Consider your hourly wage, you're well below the minimum wage in the USA and could have got a part time job and likely made more money. You have a much greater upside with this business, but right now you're earning less than minimum wage.

I live in the US and our minimum wage is 7.25. Only a few places are lucky enough to have anything near 15 as minimum.....

You mentioned a lot of other activities that you didn't count in your 6 hours of work. I was including everything else to come up with a number closer to the minimum wage. I was just giving you another thought of guaranteed money.

Awesome technique. Have a buddy who has a growing list of sites he needs to build for clients. It's taking him for ever because he's building from scratch, straight HTML/CSS style. Wanted me to partner w/ him and I suggested using WordPress and themes w/ minor customization. Because what most of them have now that they're calling websites is an utter disrespect to the term and whoever created it for them should be taken out behind the shed and shot dead....

I bring up this thread back because I still have PMs asking me what the sites look and feel. I will give the sample into this public thread rather than PM back one by one.

Plus, I'm not active here because of this business. I am now have more than 100 clients that subscribe to my new Package of hosting and maintaining their site on a monthly basis.

This is how one site look and feel for your curiosity & it's not that bad, too in my opinion.
