Hi,

I am a newbie and was wondering if there are differences and/or benefits in setting up your blog as a subdomain on your website or simply as a folder on your site?

I think a subdomain would be best. That way your keyword optimized subdomain name will appear before the main domain name rather than after as would be the case for a folder. Of course, setting up on a TLD would be best of all.

Other considerations may play in... so I defer to those with more expertise on this forum.

If you already have a site that has high authority and has been around for a while then you would want to use a folder. This way your blog can gain the benefits from linkjuice, etc.... Unless of course you are going to do something BH... then you would want to protect yourself

Ok, since site is new and I might make some mistakes (BH) Woudl be safer to go for subdomain

Subdomains work fine. Sometimes they actually even work better if your main page gets a decent amount of hits.

if you use a sub you can then create your own backlinks compared with inlinks for a folder. i use both methods - depends on the site, what else i have to promote it, etc.
