BHW,

I know this question has been asked to death. I think my case is slightly unique and hence starting this thread.

Quick story:
- started Shopify store in Aug 2020, failed miserably
- shop is still up, but now I plan to go back to my SEO roots and get organic traffic
- this will be through content marketing and link building

Having said that, what do you recommend is the best way to go about it? Let the shop be on Shopify, or move to WP + WooCommerce?

Would love to hear from you if you've had a similar experience.

Cheers!
TIA

Bookmarked, as i woul like to know wich is better, i personnaly find Shopify structure more complicated, bur maybe its only me as i found some Shpify store outranking WP one!

Damnn...this post is waaaaay too old, but thought I would comment on it for 2024....lol.

If you're going to go the organic route, I highly recommend you do video marketing for products on IG, TT, and YT. It'll bring in immediate traffic. All it requires is skill, a sense for what goes viral, and sweat equity.

I would outsource content marketing as that is a long game play.

Since you're focusing on organic traffic, staying with Shopify is feasible, especially if you're already familiar with its platform and functionalities. Shopify offers decent SEO capabilities, and with strategic content marketing and link building efforts, you can definitely improve your store's visibility in search results.

However, if you feel more comfortable with WordPress and WooCommerce and believe that its SEO capabilities align better with your strategy, then transitioning might be worth considering. Ultimately, the decision should be based on factors like your familiarity with the platform, the ease of implementation for your SEO strategy, and your long-term goals. I haven't had a similar experience personally, but I recommend weighing the pros and cons of both platforms and choosing the one that best suits your needs and expertise.
