SEO is getting costly

Low competition - If you are not on a budget is a key for success
Medium competition - Once you are on a budget from the low competition - reinvest.
If you have the time & resources to create content that is better than your competitors - It will give you a huge advantage.

Best advice right there.

If you want to tackle a big key word you will need to start with very low volume keywords in that niche and rank them and keep expanding in low volume keywords. Once you rank for several dozen low volume keywords, move up in difficulty and repeat. Once Google is willing to rank you well for a few hundred less competitive keywords it will often give the ability to rank higher for the higher volume keywords in the same niche.

If you start off trying to rank for the high volume words you most likely will never get the rankings you need.

Very interesting, and I want to apply this strategy. Please advise me on how to optimize the on-page SEO (such as internal linking)? Since my published articles will start from lower to higher volume keywords? Should I edit my published article to put the internal link that leads to the new fresh article that has a higher volume keyword?

unfortunately, there is no other option. if you don't have the money to play with the big boys then dont even start, your wasting your time.

I was checking a keyword with super low kd 5 on ahrf and 11 on kw finder. 16k global searches on kw finder and 10k on ahrefs. The site that is ranking on the top have ,63 links from really really high quality websites
63 links pointing to? The homepage or the page that's ranking for that particular keyword?

its mixed, some at homepage and some at money article but he is ranking for the main keyword

Someone (I forget who) said they target questions, like how to do x with y for example, no competition targeting the actual target phrase, so easy to rank.

That's what I do and it works most of the time with zero link building.

I have a few sites which do it to a degree, but given that I am about to get some more free time, I think I will incorporate this in to a couple of sites and see how it does.

I wrote an article a few months back which covered thirty odd questions and tips about a particular product, it now gets about 50 UV's a day. It has not ranked for its main KW, but it has ranked for a bunch of the specific questions.

So it definitely works.

Guest posts and manual web 2.0s is definitely supportive. You could create PBNs all by yourself too.

I don't think "competition" i.e the numbers have changed. So I don't agree its harder from that perspective.

Id argue that people have gotten better at it. You also see a rise of business that are quicker to adapt to social media or have a message that customers understand to you see a new wave in business replace the old.

Ad cost of course will always go up when no one is trying anything new and if you got enough money and the margin to make it work then go for it.

But id disagree it's increased competition as you still have those who are on top, those who are not and then the ones replacing those who don't adapt it happens in every industry, every year and with every shift.

If I was paying for ads and my cost started double, treble or worse id start to look for ways to invest that money better.
