    Hi guys.

As we all know, Google has been dramatically transforming the SEO industry over the past several years. Penguin update, unnatural link penalty, link devaluation, Panda update, cracking down on link networks, and now Hummingbird - all these things have changed SEO forever.

And the search engine continues to introduce new stuff: behavioral data analysis, machine learning-based content analysis, and who knows what else.

Rumor has it, in 2014 Google is going to take action against guest blogging, switch Analytics over to an exclusively paid platform, release a terrifying update called Zebra, etc.

So what do you guys personally expect from Google in 2014? What changes in the industry should we all get ready for?

What are your assumptions? Share your thoughts.

I don't know if it will be in 2014, but I think one way they will target guest posting is google authorship. They will probably look to see what types of articles a single writer is writing. If they are all on the same topic, the guest posts will probably be fine. But if the articles are all over the place relevancy wise, it's possible they may devalue every article written by that person.

Predicting bigger emphasis on Latent Semantic Indexing (obviously huge increase in importance with Hummingbird, but likely slated to continue trend) and continued decrease in value of EMD

And do you guys think that social signals and Google authorship will play a larger role in SEO next year?

Long tail targeting will happen more, trying to rank for 2 terms keywords will be a waste of time, 4/5 word terms will be where the biggest gains are

IMers will be building more PBN that are really hard for Google to track, guest-postings will get hit hard and the SERPS will get worse then they are now, also local SERPS will get hit hard and sites like angie lists and Yelp will be controlling more and more the op 10 in local search.

I think that the focus will continue to move toward quality copy/content. As I've posted before, I think that the days of ranking sites with shitty, cheap content are over.

I think if your going to be taking Google seriously in the future - you will need to start getting a really solid team of experts together.

Article Writers who actually write and don't rehash what already exists.
Videos - your going to need to be able to produce great videos and then rank them
Social Media - your going to need people who can sit there all day and interact with an audience
Private Networks - your going to need people to build networks that you don't sell links in - you just use for your own use or client use.

Then obviously you need the strategy person - to put everything together - focus on the Site and make sure everyone is focused on being the authority site in your niche.

Everything else is just noise if you stick to the basics.

Danny1111 I couldn't agree more. Additionally I think it's critical to take Google seriously, no matter what side of the "Hat" you pursue in IM. I'm newer to this side of things than some, but I have seen the rise & fall of the "SEO Experts" & rehashing is a perfect description.

I think google will be personalizing the results a lot more... SEO will have to transform to target certain niche groups and emulate genuine interests from those groups in your site...

Google hasn't changed at all in all these years. It's the same tactics: manually penalize spam, new spam techniques afloat, they manually penalize again and that's how this train will keep rolling in 2014 : more of the same.

Absolutely. G is all about its own self promotion, hence authorship will play big in 2014. G+ is here to stay, deal with and profit from it. Also, Danny hit the nail on the head. Extended posts with genuinely valuable content, pictures, videos and social signals = $$$. It's all about being ostensibly white hat while using grey/blackhat methods to automate, dominate, rinse and repeat. Expect shit sites to get hit more, those with tons of irrelevant back links to be penalized and those with even decently useful content to be rewarded. Start catering more to what your target audience wants to read/see rather than trying to outsmart G and you'll be fine.

We're finding it more difficult to produce enough quality material to fill the quantity that we need. Pretty soon it'll be like regular advertising on TV with production values and all.
