Complete beginner here - be gentle lol
About a 6 months ago, I decided to start an online business so i can eventually work for myself. So i purchased a ready made web design website and "guide" to becoming a reseller. I received access to 3 developers and a guide to getting business. For a complete beginner the package wasn't the best, all it said was get on up work and bid on every post. So that left me with 0 knowledge on how to rank or get any traffic to the website. I could do bids on up work and be a reseller for the developers WITHOUT purchasing a website. So i eventually realized this wasnt the best way of going about it, so here i am looking for guidance on how to be a web design reseller (because i already have the site). I see guys in the marketplace selling sites + seo but im not sure if i should buy seo help and try to rank the site or if there's another option im missing. Any advice would be appreciated!!

PS. Btw, i have a fiverr account with over 50+ reviews (4.8 avg), but i work at a music studio for my 9-5 so all those reviews were from audio engineering so im not sure if it'll help me to start offering web design gigs

Gotta love the "be gentle" caution, although I usually like it rough.

There are many excelled web developers here who will hopefully drop by to offer you some sage nuggets.

Meanwhile, you might take a gander at these:

Yea, im hoping the big developers jump in with some advice. But im sure you know way more than me as well, so i really appreciate the links! I'll check those out now, thanks again

Your best bet would be to either learn design or SEO so you outsource one and get the profits for the other service. I would avoid going with both as its time consuming (both of the services are).

Thanks. I know how to code in html, but that was eons ago.

Some good advice here from @Visual Eagle . He is always highly-recommended by a lot of folks here.

The other expert in this area whom I would recommend is @Icey Dan . Always very helpful here. Maybe he will drop by.

Two great people to follow. ;)

Time consuming to outsource both? Or are you saying it would be time consuming to DO both? As in learn design and seo? I wasn't planning on learning both if that's what you meant lol. I have the site already and 2 developers (even more good developers have dm'd me since this post), so completing the work isn't the problem. It's getting traffic to the site to get clients. If you're suggesting i need to learn seo myself to get the clients or it wont be profitable outsourcing both jobs, then im all ears

Why not create a web design gig for Bands/Producers/Studios then?
I like that, i think i'll do that. I would have to discuss that with the developers though. Because they do the quick generic 3,5,10 page dropdown wordpress sites. And music based sites require more music streaming, video playing capabilities. So i would need to see if they can do that, and also research the pricing. But thank you! You gave me something to consider and research, thanks again

I'm a full stack developer so I feel reasonably qualified to answer this question. If you want to forward me your training materials, I could tell you where the gaps are as web development business is way too broad of a spectrum to even dream of telling you where you're at.

I can say that most dev's in the marketplace are doing what you are (reselling). Are your fiverr reviews based in web development or seo? Since most people here are resell, you aren't likely to turn a good profit buying services here and in particular not in seo and web dev.

You are wasting your money paying dev's for 90% of projects because for most sites it is enough to buy a wordpress theme, customize the banner, and then do offsite SEO. You would've been better off spending this entire time learning about customer acquisition for web design and instead focusing on learning offsite SEO. For on page SEO, it is enough to know how to use popular wordpress SEO tools like Yoast and Rank Math. To do this type of project yourself, it literally takes about a week of learning for an average person.

My pleasure... I'm guessing you don't have much technical experience, but a lot of video and streaming platforms have embedded players you just copy and paste straight into WordPress pages or your theme.

Good luck with it man!

You basically want to earn money off your new biz acquisition, right?
You will need clients to sell those services to. That is how the money is going to roll in.

There are 2 ways to go about it.
1. Manually acquire clients- build account on websites, forums, create gigs etc on places like BHW, seoclerk telling about your service and costs and stick to it. Over time you'll have people coming to you to get their work done. This is a manual kind of approach. You need to know everything about what you are doing and need to satisfy your clients before they actually close.

2. Get organic traffic to your site. Rank your site- it shows up to people who search for web development and they come and place orders. I have found that people who approach you of their own initiative are easier to close as clients. Again ranking for web dev exactly would be quite tough so you can try to rank for your local region and that alone would give you enough traffic to work with. This is a passive kind of approach.
Acc to me you should keep doing #1 while working on #2. When you reach a steady traffic youwon't have to invest as much time in #1 as you used to. :)

No, my fiverr reviews are audio engineering based. In regards to the week of learning, you're referring to customer acquisition correct? Are there any specific resources you would suggest? And i understand where you're coming from in regards to paying another reseller, the profits drop dramtically. The only way i would work with a new developer is if the prices made sense. I was more so looking for a seo guy to help rank my site, so i can get clients and use the devs i already know

Ohhh ok. And no, zero technical experience whatsoever lol. More on the planning, learn how to run the business side. But thanks! So not much price difference huh?

Thank you for your feedback, that helps alot!
1. I agree I have to start manually. Im still bidding on up work and i think im going to create a gig on fiver since i have a high rated account (even though it was for non web design gigs) it cant hurt.
2. Seo/Ranking - THIS IS WHAT I NEED HELP WITH. I purchased the site/business and never did any kind of promo, seo, ads, nothing. So there's no kind of traffic going to the site, because i didnt know how. I was only instructed to do up work, but now i know the importance of getting traffic. Btw thanks for the tag in the other post, however i dont have enough post/replies to respond to that post

You can scrape Google maps for business listings that don’t have a website. That means they have an actual business but no website for some reason. As long as you’re cheap enough you can probably grab some clients before squarespace takes them all.

Squarespace is taking over like that? Wow

squarespace and other platforms are just a better choice for business owners that need a basic website. Selling web design by itself is a total mistake, it’s supposed to be used as a foot in the door to selling more expensive marketing services.

Like seo? Or what services? Yea web design seems to be either dead or over satuated, but i already purchased the site/business without knowing much about the market (rookie mistake) so I figured i should atleast get the business to its ceiling then use the profits to start another business.

No, don't let them tell you it will be a dramatic difference if you want to pivot in that direction.

Also, the market for web design is just as big as it's always been. Despite the rise of Square Space and other web site builders, there's still a massive market for custom, well-structured sites that you can plan well for traffic and rankings.

Got proof of that?

Yeah, I tracked down the specific guy they resold from and waterboarded them. Nah, I'm going on the prices they charge vs the quality they deliver. Many services like article writing are essentially resellers outside the upper tiers but I was more speaking to the things like turnkey make 5k/month Amazon threads, all of which I tried were embarrassingly poorly coded. SEO is a mixed bag where some are top notch quality but that's largely the more expensive listings which I doubt would allow this guy to break even unless he's planning on going after business and not personal sites. So the cheaper SEO sellers, yes I'd say there are some people reselling their secret sauce combo of Fiverr gigs.

Nah I mean it would've taken you a week to cut the middleman and not have to use dev's. Literally all you gotta know is buy a theme on theme forest, how to setup wordpress (most hosts are one click install), how to register domains and point the DNS to hosting (30 mins max), and some basic things you could use a cheat sheet for with wordpress. Adding a custom header and making some basic page edits. Boom you're a WP dev. Then you'd only have to pay for logo design and call it a day. All of Wordpress SEO can be managed with Yoast or Rankmath plugin.

I don't think that acct will help you much for selling web services, just get your foot in the door. Did the course provide a way of getting leads? Are you trying to hook people by selling the site cheap and upselling SEO? Because on Fiverr that would be really difficult. In general people are cheap shits on Fiverr so honestly even reselling sites there is pushing it as they want diamonds for $5. People go to Fiverr to get workers to resell not to resell their workers.

SEO makes the most sense to outsource but it's also the thing which is most dangerous to outsource if you don't know what you're doing. Also it takes months to show results, and dealing with client expectation can be exhausting ("why isn't my site number 1 yet -- after one week). To be able to just leave it to an expert, you will be looking at some serious money monthly which your profit margin will likely be extremely slim on unless your WP dev is working for 10$ a site. You also have to keep in mind content acquisition if they want that. I simply resell BHW marketplace services and design sites myself. I disagree with web design being a poor choice of a solo service to sell. Depends on your market. If you're trying to sell to BHW members and Fiverr, absolutely. However my designs run 5-10k even for basic Wordpress (though I do more than just editing the banner) and on top of that a monthly stipend for SEO. I don't go after personal sites, thosebare nickel and dimers, they can go be someone else's headache. Or use squarespace.

If I was your position, I'd take some time to really dig into SEO in 2019 and decide what type of work you want to do. From there, you can cut down on prices by limiting the work that must be done outsourced by picking only things you cant do yourself to outsource and buckling down and doing the rest.

@Jay Gee in essence this is what you have said in your post:
"I am really good at audio engineering, so I have decided to set up an online business in...
web design that I know nothing about!"

Why don't you set up something in the audio engineering business?
