You have to build a lot of links. Simple as that. Now, how do you build a lot of quality links? Zennoposter. Ranking long tails wont work with any BST. You need to simply build a lot of links and the only way to do that is with custom templates
I feel your pain. I worked for an eCommerce company for one week as their new SEO Director. Turned out the SEO staff was as you guessed one person; me. The site itself was over 15,000 pages and over 100 Spammy Blogs. The people who built it thought they knew how to do SEO and did not like hearing it was a train wreck. Duplicate content/descriptions, Title Tags (Nightmare) and then of course the Image rich pages 0923487.jpg Every solution I offered; "It is too labor intensive", "That will take too long", "Your a Director and that is ape work", "No you cant hire anyone". So, I quit and solved the problem. LOL
I would say that you should breakdown your online properties into 2 separate categories: 1) E-commerce 2) Media (blogs, sites, SEO etc)For E-commerce sites, you should do only On-page SEO. It should be completely white-hat.For media (blogs, sites etc) you can go into grey, black depending on your preference. Objective should be to drive all traffic from these media sites into your e-commerce site.If you do that then your e-commerce domain is Google-safeI want to start a discussion here.We do a lot of talking on this forum about how to rank pages that we create. A lot of them are usually some form of blog. This is what we mean when we say "add new content" and having "rich and unique content" on your pages that rank. We also talk about having articles with keyword densities and such. But what do we do when we want an e-commerce site (sort of like Amazon) to rank? We want the category and product pages to individually rank for lots of keywords. E commerce sites rarely have articles, and the content on category and product pages are thin at best. Even worse, e-commerce sites are rarely updated with fresh content. Sure the company may add new products now and again.Seems to me like some serious backlinking is in order. And probably the need for rich product descriptions. An having solid internal linking structures, especially for huge sites that have several hundred pages. What say you guys?.
I have a site that is really competitive on a lot of the keywords. The site itself has about 40k items which narrow down to approximately 20-30 brand tops. It's been really difficult to rank a lot of the keywords and some actually aren't even indexed in the search engine with exact url search. I've grazed the surface by doing typical social media, did the seo for it and pretty soon with Google shopping requesting to have paid merchant campaigns starting in Aug, I'm trying to quickly get these rankings up.
This site has been up for about 3-4yrs and PR is still 0. I've made many ecommerce sites which ranked really well, but this particular one is just not working.
It's really hard if I try to keyword, create articles for even a 3rd of the catalog. What do you guys suggest?
Instead of starting a new thread, i will post in this great thread. Has the penguin update affected any of you? What changes need to be made post-penguin fot ecommerce sites?
Hello Blackhatters,
I forgot to update everyone on how things were going for me concerning my ecommerce site. I have since sold the site. My site was not like the typical ecommerce site. It was actually a hybrid ecommerce/blog site. It was successful and made me some good money.
Things I did to Rank My ecommerce/blog hybrid Site...
1. Created a blog section on the site and wrote related articles on similar topics and got almost all of those ranked on the first page of Big G.
2. Had each page and article optimized with my keyword and LSI keyword/keywords.
3. I used the usual methods for ranking each page/article.
A. Article Networks
B. Social Bookmarks
C. Wiki Links
D. Directory Submissions
E. Whois Site Submissions
F. Press Releases
G. Web 2.0
H. Forum Profiles
I. .Gov & .Edu Backlinks
J. Private Blog Networks
K. Youtube promotion for products
L. Facebook Fan Page Promotion of each page/article
M. Stumbleupon Marketing
N. Twitter Promotion/Retweeting
& maybe some more I cannot remember off the top of my head.
I went pretty deep into marketing/offsite seo for the site and it ranked for a lot of keywords. It managed to get it to PR3 level. My onsite SEO was really good when I got it tested it was like a A-. I optimized the images with my keyword/keywords, video, meta etc.
As far as the structure of the site at the end of each article I would have "Other Popular Pages" to encourage the reader to read on related topics & or get more information on the current topic. I also used the keywords I was trying to rank for in each title in this section of the blog.
If you have any questions feel free to ask me and I hope this helps someone.
Have an awesome day everyone.
mcbain2279 - "Not sharing any of the techniques" You get a lot from BHW, why not give back. That is sort of the F'n point of this thread.
I have several ecommerce sites. These are somethings that help me rank well.
- Original product desc.
- SES urls
- Onsite SEO keywords in (meta tags, H1, Alt)
- I've found it helps to have unique Title tags. Unique from other sites.
- keyword in file name and static, no dynamic urls i.e widget.html, mycategory.html
- integration w/ facebook and twitter (likes)
- videos on product page to increase how long they stay on the page.
- blog w/ related articles that link to the product page.
- product reviews. beg for them. they are fresh content and are keyword rich.
- No duplicate content within your site (canonical tags)
- Best keywords in the footer
- Link to an authority site
- Speed of site is a factor in the algorithm so optimize
looking to have someone over do my on site SEO...any takers?
