1st post on BHW but I was actually searching for something and came across this...
You really need to look at international market share to answer this one..
In the UK/EU Bing/Yahoo not worth much.
In the US its worth it. Binghoo has roughly 30% (just under) of search market.
That 30% in terms of core search volume actually accounts for more traffic than the whole of UK where Google has 90% market share. Its a lot when you think about it in those terms.
Comscore data puts US as 19bn core searches for March 2014. So 311m people is 61 searches a month per person. Apply that to UK population of 62m and you have 3.7bn core searches in UK market. Bing US with its 30% (ish) accounts for 5.7bn. So by my flakey maths Binghoo in US market is bigger than the UK total search market...
Bing is the dumping ground for all my sites that got nailed by Penguin. They all still rank page 1 lol but they are UK so the traffic is pathetic but they still make a few hundred $ a month.
So IMHO hammer Google, when those get burnt just tweek and spank some more or less and let Binghoo keep sending you some cheques. Partly why I'm looking at doing more US SEO.
Even though Google had 67% of internet search engine market share and Yahoo and Bing had only 29% market share combined. I think you should still spend time working on SEO for both sites.
If you work with SEO, you should know that the most important thing to optimize for isn?t Google, and it?s not Bing or Yahoo either -- it?s the visitor. Ranking on the first page of any site is great, but if your site visitors aren?t interested in your website once you?ve drawn them there, then all of your hard work was for nothing.
Once you?ve created a great, user-friendly website, you absolutely must optimize it for Google, Bing, and Yahoo so that your potential customers are given the opportunity to discover what you?ve created.
