Message 10 at most per day, especially if it's new, and make sure youre doing it in a way that it doesnt look like youre spamming. Leave time in between.

I will not limit you to send many messages a day, but if you want to send the same message as Spam, you should limit the number of messages sent from 10 to 30 messages because it requires accurate information. If you send too many at a time, it will affect you and lead to your account being locked.

I usually don't pay attention, I just keep adding friends until FB tells me I can't add anymore, then I stop. I think around 20.

When it comes to messages, it depends on your relationship. If you are already friends, there is no limit. But if you aren't friends, maybe limit 1 messages per stranger account, and don't do it too many times within a short period of time. Send 2 every 10 minutes or so. With friend request, I'd say 15 - 20 requests per day is a good number.
