sell pirated books

There aren't that many valuable books left in libraries. I used to work in one of the best and their policy was that if you lost a book you had to pay the "set" replacement cost for that type of book. Well for non-fiction books that amount was $20. A couple times a year someone would come up to me with a book and say "this thing is out of print and if I buy it used it costs $250, can I buy it from the library?". I'd tell them no, then they'd ask how much the library would charge them if they "lost" it... I'd have to tell them $20. They'd stand right in front of me with the book in their hand and say "I'm not returning it... I lost it... here's $20" and walk out.

Just grab some PLR articles on a given niche, spin them in one of the many article re-writing apps, create a "Free eBook", load it with "recommended products" (which are actually your affiliate links, and spread that "Free eBook" all over the web.

It's a numbers game, but you will see some conversions, depending on how well you set it up. This method of giving away a free ebook with some useful info and "recommended products" is called "Hinge Marketing", and it can be very effective.

are you serious ? lol ....but wouldn't that be considered theft ? and it would show on their library card and they wouldnt be able to borrow books again right?

you sound like a trouble maker IMHO

You're looking to spend tremendous amounts of startup costs on a project that might not even prove to be successful. If people are buying 'rare' books for the sake of them being rare, they're going to be especially anal about the authenticity of your item. You might as well just stick to selling pirated DVDs.

I have a feeling jail is a bit overkill for this. Theft of a library book? I know people who are stealing street signs and selling them in another state as personalized street names.

well aside from the initial start up cost for books etc (which can be offset by going to the library or borrowing the books) this could be very good...i thought about doing something like this b4 i even ever heard of bhw or knew how to make a blog...essentially what i was thinking was to get a small army of workers and have them copy all popular books online and sell membership to my site...new books come out all the time and the members would have access to them all as well being able to download them or print them...obviously i never pulled the trigger cuz i didnt know any thing about overseas hosting or outsourcing to china/india/Philippines...etc...oh and the fact that i was on parole lol

The answers here are representative, you have almost no competition because most people including me are afraid of that. I say: Go for it! And I say that without any irony.

There are legal ways to do that. For example a book that is printed on cheap quality paper can cost farless but all the content is there!

For example, here where I moved recently, I can find Big titles for as low as $4-5 usd each book, all are legal copies. (with ISBN codes, etc) and all Books from World Famous writers, as you know original luxury books can cost around $45 70 usd each on Europe for example. POOR Countries can't afford expensive books and Editorial houses know that so they have diff types of reprinting licenses.

Now if you can buy those cheap books and have them sold over E*gay etc GO FOR IT!

Except once you start doing it on a large enough scale, the publishers get really unhappy and take you to court for selling products in one market that were intended/licensed for a different market.

I am feeling a bit lazy, but in the UK, you can google Tesco vs Levi Jeans. Another one is CDbaby vs Music Industry.

In both cases, IIRC, the reseller lost.

I suppose if you stay small enough, then they won't bother you.

If you sell online the books and you know how to cover your traces then there is nothing they can do about it, really Think about all the fake Rolex watches being sold online nowadays. It is up to you to go for t or not.

This would be considered gross copyright violation. You would catch a charge for each book you copy...not to mention the fact that you could get slammed with huge Civil lawsuits by the book authors.

Back to the (legal) drawing board...

Yes it's very illegal but it would work.

IT's not as expensive as you think and so long as you don't do it in bulk you won't get caught.

Go to a university copier and you'll see people copying books because they don't want to buy it or they're poor. Happens at every college and university and some even resell it.

What you do is post on a local college bulletin that you have books to sell, ask them to call/email you with book they need. They e-mail you their requests - try to get lots of people looking for the same book - don't do it if there's only 1 request.

Keep advertising till you get a couple requests for the same book. If you can get like 12-15 requests for the same book - go out to the college library - get the book (you don't need membership, most will let you look at the book but not take it out). Just take the book photocopy it once (annoying but worth it). Then take the pages and go to the cheapest photo copy place in your area (lowest I've seen in mine is $0.08) and put the sheets in and photocopy it as many times as needed. Staple/bind/put iit together and sell it to the people that wanted it.

Take the original price of the book and sell it for a little less than half the cost - but let the students know that it's not an original. They won't care because of the price they're getting it at and they won't report you either. Do a good job and you can get repeat customers. BUt only do bulk orders, not worth time to do single orders.
