Scrapebox on Competitor's Site - Test or Study

Yeah its funny how the sandbox can let you back out and keep others inside

Nice experiment, however, the only part that is "unknown" is what your competitor actually did in the mean time while he was out of the first page.

This is a very important question because if he did nothing, and he came up ranking better than before then it shows commenting is not dead.

However, if he went out and did hundreds of link exchanges, etc. then the experiment wouldn't be very accurate.

Another question to ask is how old is your domain, and how old is your competitors domain?

Is the competitor still number 1?

Anyways, thanks and +rep given!

Is the competitor still number 1?

this is a good question. Another question. Is your competitor site a good , quality site or not. Quality site are harder to be penalized while thin sites usually don't last long.

I did the exact same thing to a competitor and now he is #1. It was a lot quicker than 17 days though.

I think it looks somewhat natural to google because the links spike and then taper off much like viral linking would.

I would be very interested if someone could show me a way to get a competitors site knocked off the internet. I would even pay for the resource.

If your competitor has a "catch all" IP address (typing the site's IP in your browser will show your competitors site), you can point your bh domain to your competitors IP address and build a lot of links to it. I accidently replaced one of my own sites in the SERPs that way, funny story.

I'd be up for this... doesn't matter to me what site we use... it would be an interesting experiment, and I think a useful one.

Even more interesting would be to do it with a new site... and then with a more seasoned site to see the difference in how they react and how/if they come back... but, I guess one step at a time!

If anyone wants to do this... count me in!

I'm up for this as well. Hell, we don't need more than maybe 3-5 people participating in the project.

I've got ScrapeBox and am ready to go for a few thousand spam posts. PM me if you guys want to organize this scaled up version of the experiment.

Also need to decide on the criteria. I believe that OP is correct so whoever we do this too will stand to benefit. I would suggest finding a website with the worst possible SEO possible or none at all and then go to work on it.

Might end up helping some poor shlub out or proving a point. Either way it's win.

I think this would be an excellent experiment but I'd like to do it on one of our sites or the OP's site for a very hard keyword. That way the on page SEO can be decent. I say we get a group of 5-10 people and blast weekly on the same site for a month or so. I'm definitely interested in the experiment. Feel free to send me the details in PM to whoever wants to organize this. :D:D

Trying to answer the questions in this thread. If I missed any let me know.

Yes my competitor is still number 1, but I am now number 2. I will pass him/her up this week, or early next week.

Which leads me to the next answer, he does not do anything with the site. I have been watching it since I purchased my domain, about 8 months ago. I keep pretty good track of how many backlinks he has, and he has only gained about 10 maybe 15 since I purchased my domain.

I also believe that my Onsite is much better then his, but that is my personaly opinion. I also promote my site much harder them they do theirs.

If I missed any questions please let me know.

If you want my honest opinion, commenting is not dead. I am also conducting a new test on a new domain, you can read it in my thread. It is in the Make Money Online niche which I thought would be somewhat competitive, due to those people should know something about SEO.

Friend, Very good your post. I did something similar, but gave me a quick and satisfactory knowledge.

1, a term I created the Internet did not exist.
2 posted on various blogs, diggs .. and other articles about that term.
3 for 1 month I was monitoring the sites vying for positions at the end that I had created.
4 I created a post on my personal site on such term and optimize it with 20 second PR backlinks.

Result: I'm in for the first term I created the Internet. =)

Example of word for you to play for optimization, testing and other "sanationmetrix"

create articles containing the above tests and apply their backlinks and so on.

It sounds to me like some of those pr0 and pr1 sites went up in rank themselves. 500,000 links is a whole lot of sites.

Either that, or those 500,000 under-pr1 sites are discounted, and he still ended up with 115 more backlinks than you have.

Moral of the story... a link is a link.

There are alot of factors that go into ranking for terms and how to do negative seo on competitors. There are people that specialize in doing negative SEO and its an extremely intense process. Be prepared to pay up to get your rank up .

Wondering how long this theme will be regurgitated. Yes, for one particular site you may be able to get them knocked off and make some quick cash. Worth trying in OPs case.
But overall and most of the time, this is a waste of time, and in this case as you see it actually helped the competition.

This same thing happens normally, so its nothing proprietary to spamming our competition. I've had sites do the dance for high quality link building. Why you drop off and then back again is anyone's guess, although there is no shortage of explanations in this forum.

Thanks for the share. This is some really good news and will give me some sleep onthose nights where you wonder "did i spam maybe just a little to much?"

Ya, this is good stuff -- real data instead of the rampant speculation we're used to seeing on here.

Quick question as there seems to be something missing:

1. After you built the backlinks, did you create an RSS feed out of them and ping them or did google find them naturally?

2. Was the keyword used for the backlink the main keyword or a spammy one?

3. Were the blogs nofollow?

This thread is rocking and i was near to buy a software for SEO and this is the one i had mind on it,
Thanks for re enforcing me to buy this software

The same thing has happened for me many times...and hence i concentrate more on my sites only..

In my opinion you got what you deserved.

For Christ sake, it was a test.

Someone comes on here, posts the results of a test that many, many people will have thought about doing and he gets slated.

Get a life

What if you spam the site and posted links on porn, gambling, etc sites?

What if you duplicated the content of the site or page you wanted to sandbox or drop off the serps and put porn links on them and just promote that LP and see what happens..

Sounds like you need to blast those 500K sites with your url now. Maybe if you broke the list up you wouldn't get hit by the dance like he did.

LMAO... that is exactly what I was thinking when I read the OP post. Heck, it's worth a "test".
