Hello Everyone,
For the past 2 months I have been running a little test on one of my competitor's sites. In the beginning of this test, he was ranked #2 and I was ranked #3.
My competitor had about 115 more backlinks then I did. So I thought to my self that I would test out and see if G would drop them if I was to blast their site with spammy links.
So here is what I did. I scraped what I thought was the total oposite of our niche, found about 500,000 blogs to comment on and went to town. Nothing above a pagerank of 1 got hit. So what I was doing was dropping links to his site on the worst blogs ever.
I did all of these links in about 48 hours maybe a little more.
Three days later, I was number 2 and he was no where to be found on the first page. I used MS and could not find him in the first 100 results.
I forgot to mention that the #1 spot is held by an authority site. It is an about page/article that I did not think it would matter if I spammed.
I moved up the ranks and he was dropped off. This lasted for about 17 days.
---Here is what sucks. After those 17 days of getting much more traffic being in the number 2 position, my competitor comes back, and guess what he is above the about site. He is the #1 position.
So my conclusion.
1. If you are spamming the hell out of your site and it falls off, keep building and be patient. I believe it will come back.
2. Don't spam your competition. It will just help them out in the long run.
I hope this helps to answer some people's questions. If you have any questions, please post them in this thread.
I am going back to work now, to rank in that number 1 position that I now know is doable.
