Scammed for $5,000 - Help me Track Down the Scammer

If he has too much money, let the scammer enjoy.
Anyways, nothing can be done now. Your friend will think twice before buying anything from anyone online, this is a lesson for him :)

Easier said than done. Put yourself in his shoes and then would you say the same thing?

I wish I had that kind of money to just throw away ....that would be a sweet problem to have! Sounds like 5Gs is more like 50 cents to him. Lucky guy!

Yeah then you would enjoy as many Oat meals as you can.

All you can do is find him, file a civil suit and get a subpoena. Then make your case about Wire Fraud

But you have to find him, that's up to you. Find him and get him served.

I'm no lawyer by any means but if this is a domestic case that's all about you can do. Or find the guy and "Settle" it yourself.

I agree with all those who suggest legal options, this guy is clearly gettign bolder, as he scams.
I mean pulling $5000 off IG alone is no easy feat. He must be quite a charmer, either that or your friend's a dud, no offence xD.

Among so many scammed people, I'm sure the law enforcement can peice together a lot of things, and catch the guy.
On top of that your friend does seem to have the resources to get this done, so more people don't get scammed.

UPDATE:

After going back and forth with the scammer I got him to provide me with a physical address.

Right now, I am considering my options as to how I should best pursue this.

This shall be interesting. :)

That's a great news. Hard part is already done but you still need to make a solid plan to nab the criminal.

Best way is to approach the police, show all the evidence and proofs and have them lodge an FIR. Once they investigate the case and are convinced, it would be a matter of time before he is arrested. But don't give up in any case.

You will save 100's of people from getting scammed in future if you are able to nab him. Good luck my friend.

I have a few options to explore regarding this but will keep this thread updated on progress.

File a report with your local police, then more importantly file a complaint with IC3 (FBI) who will have the resources to file a warrant for any information related to that IG page and track the scammer down.

He's not very rich but a mid-twenties friend with a bank account matching that of your average 60-year-old 401Ks account.

He purchased another watch yesterday on eBay for $12,000 from a legitimate seller, he has learned his lesson. In case you're curious, it's a fully-flooded Rolex, it has a diamond bezzel and diamond-set band.

Got to wear it for a bit in the office yesterday.

Also, the scammer has since deleted every post on his Instagram page.

I believe this is due to some other IG pages calling him out in addition to his information being shared here with some members.
