[SB Case Study] Starting with nothing, taking it to the top

I've been searching for decent public proxy lists but with no luck. Where's a good place to get them?

When I stopped using public proxies and switched to private I nearly had a sexual climax at the increased performance, efficiency and speed of all my projects.

Public proxies bad. Private proxies good ;)

Yeah but if you have a large keyword list and want to scrape millions of urls then the private proxies burn out.

Not if you use Yahoo, which is what I recommend anyway.

Like I've mentioned before, I don't use proxies full stop when I'm harvesting. You can harvest around 5 million URLs per day on Yahoo for each IP which for the majority will be more than enough.

I'm not using any private proxies as of yet. I'm harvesting without proxies and posting with public proxies below 800 ping/latency.

I can see the benefit of using private proxies to post with, regarding speed and success, but using private proxies is by no means mandatory.
I'm still in the early stages of using SB properly. If I feel it's definitely working then upgrading to private proxies is an option.
 
I think you will banned in Google search very soon. 1-2 months you will be ranking higher and higher and bam you are nowhere. Do keep us updated

I haven't had any trouble with this so far. Scraped millions so far this month plus a lot of other tasks with just 12 proxies. They're being used almost every hour of the day for one thing or another.

Hmm.

I scraped about 300k urls and got a message from squidproxies telling me they will ban me because they received a spam warning from their ISP.

About how many URLS can you manage to scrape before Google starts putting captchas on your proxies? I currently use 15 proxies form squidproxies.

That's really interesting, I didn't realize Yahoo allowed so much scraping. Damn, the answer is simple and right there but I couldn't see it :(

I can imagine Yahoo might bring up blogs that Google scrapers don't find too.

80% of my scraping is in yahoo and bing, I just farm more current stuff in google.

I suggest finding a low traffic public proxy source. I can usually get 200 with latency below 500ms from my source :D
 
Update:
Ranking did not change today, still #17
Tonight I am starting another blast to some 300k urls.
This time I will also blast with my 6 review articles urls.

The pinging gets my backlinks found and indexed. I use http://pingfarm.com for pinging.

1. Wrote them myself, about 10 mins a pop.
2. No sales, but organic traffic is dripping in so the first sale should not be far a way.

I always find that sales don't come straight away and it takes time but snowballs.

What keyword are you actually targeting btw? You could just give us another of the long tails if you want, i'm just curious on the niche.

I am not outing my keywords for obvious reasons.
 
Ok, so you have other amazon sites that are making you money or another kind of site? You mentioned Jan Roos' course earlier, do you use it as well? What has been your previous success with it prior to this test?

That course is what made me get back into Amazon, at first I was running autoblogs with Amazon links on it but those don't convert.
Once I got the course I decided to try reviews sites and they convert well. All the keyword, SEO crap in the course I didn't care about and I believe he left out a couple crucial parts.
Anyway, I have more Amazon sites indeed. Most of them are earning about $4-$6 per sale. So far Amazon revenues are like $400-$500 in regular times.
More than double that on major holidays.

Awww man, the revenue is so low from amazon products that I refuse to go there!

Obviously it works for some people, somehow, but then I see the $40-$120 products I could sell from markethealth or another network and end up sticking those in instead.

I do make commission on amazon but it is pennies.

Thank you for your reply. How many Amazon sites do you have to make this? Care to share what crucial parts you feel he left out? Because I am also picking out the good and bad in a few courses and trying to make it all work.

So do you basically pick a broad niche and make an authority site, or pick a narrow niche and just make lots more sites?

If you're doing these in Wordpress what themes are you using?

(apologies if this has been covered)
