Hey guys, I’ve been running Google Ads for a roofing company, spending $100/day, but I’m only getting around 10 clicks and no leads. My website is fully optimized for conversions, so that’s not the issue. I set up ad groups for gutter installation, gutter repair, emergency roof repair, roof repair, and roof installation. I also picked strong keywords like “roof repair [town]” and [near me] searches. Not sure what’s going wrong—any ideas? Would really appreciate any advice!

Google tags - set-up for conversions.

Try manual bidding with higher prices.

Yeah, seasonality could be a factor—fewer people might be looking for roofing services right now since there are no storms, and it’s cold outside. But at the same time, I don’t want to just brush it off as an excuse. Maybe there’s something else I’m missing.

Try manual bidding with higher prices.

I’m thinking of testing manual bidding with higher bids to see if that helps. For example, let’s take this keyphrase: [roof repair near me]—what would you suggest for a good starting bid? Should I go closer to the high end or keep it in the middle?

Hope so this is the problem to setup ads campaign run. Because clear reason difficult to understand without see the full campaign details that you set.

The only thing I can think that would be an issue is your landing page. It should be fast, have social proof and convey the point of everything in the top section. I hope I am allowed to show this video as this is not advertising to anyone, but I found it helpful for myself.

Try 3 different bids, 50% less, 50% more and 200% more than the high one. You need to figure out by testing how others are outbidding you for those keywords and get the traffic.

Improve your funnel or make it easier for them to contact you with as little hassle as possible, but ultimately depending on the market the clicks in roofing are crazy expensive so you may need a higher test budget to be honest. Consider how much competitors will pay for a single lead vs ROAS.

In most cases, you're probably using maximize clicks with broad-type keywords.
Roofing campaigns fail because of the LPs most of the times, how good is it?
Do you track calls or just leads?
How competitive is your city?
Did you just include keywords like "roofing" or keywords with more intent, like "roofing company near me"?
Go over your search term report, do they make sense?
Use DKI and dynamic location insertion in your ads, it encourage Google to increase your score.
If you can, use a script that adds the users' city name to the headline of the page.

Analyze when your target audience is most active and adjust your ad scheduling accordingly.

Let me break this down into a clearer strategy for targeting local roofing customers:

Think Local, Not National

The national search volume of 90,500 for "roof repair near me" isn't relevant to your specific market
Focus on your service area's unique characteristics

Specialize by Roof Type
  1. Identify common roof materials in your area (like slate)
  2. Create specific pages for each:
    • Slate tile repairs
    • Slate tile replacement
    • Slate roofing specialists
    • slate roofers
Target Money Keywords
  • Focus on terms showing buying intent:
    • Cost estimates
    • Pricing information
    • Repair quotes
Smart Targeting Tips
  1. Research neighborhoods with 20-40 year old homes
  2. Study local building codes and regulations
  3. Understand area-specific roofing problems
  4. Offer something better than just a "free quote"
Think Like a Homeowner
  • Consider their specific concerns in their location
  • Address local weather-related issues
  • Focus on common problems for their roof type
I hope that helps you get better results moving forward.

Thank you! I'll try on March and will back with updates.

Great tips on strategy!

I'd like to add something to the overall strategy about analyzing your competitors:

1. Which of your services do they offer?
2. Is there anything in their services that would enhance your offering?
3. How is your offering more favorable than theirs?
4. How competitive are your prices?

Also, don't forget to check the search terms in your ads because you may get a lot of clicks on irrelevant terms.
