Day 1
Intro:

Hello Black Hat World! I've been a long time lurker and an occasional taker of action. A journey seemed like a good way to keep myself accountable (even though we all know that rarely matters). In my previous attempts, I got as far as having the blog setup with some spun content, but knowing that wasn't going to cut it in the long run, I became overwhelmed at the thought of writing it all (or paying to outsource it) and gave up. Which brings me to me current situation:

Background:
I work for an American virtual assistance office that offers service a lot like you'd find in the marketplace here. A lot of the clients there have various websites that sell anything from marriage advice to self book publishing packages or are content websites that drive traffic to ads. Since working there, I became quite good friends with the resident content writer. We're both musicians and play in the same group, and we both aspire to hit the road and do it full time. However, we'd like to still make some other income while doing it. I think between my web admin skills and his content writing skills, we'll be able to keep up each other going and motivated. It really helps that I sit at a computer all day at work with a lot of freedom, so when a slow day comes around, this stuff just looks like work. It's a small startup office that has a pretty hippie atmosphere.

The Concept:
The idea is here pretty much you're standard Amazon affiliate blog. We're going to find a niche in that monthly search/keyword competition/price point sweet spot. We're going to write badass product review articles, comparison articles, general information articles targeting buyer keywords. We're going to optimize the shit out it for SEO. Finally, we're going to point those people towards Amazon as quickly as possible. Those people are going to buy a bunch of stuff, and we're going to embark on the journey towards being self employed.

What's Already Done:
I may be writing this journey a little bit prematurely since all I've done is purchase a KW research package from Andres here on BHW. You know when you see someone's idea and think "how didn't I think of that?" That's what Andres does. So I have my niche √

What I Plan to do Before My Next Update:
It's pretty late as I write this now, so I'll try to get at these things tomorrow. I'm going to make a list so I can come back to this tomorrow and just work from it.
  • Purchase EMD (it's available, thanks Andres)
  • Purchase Hosting
  • Install Wordpress
  • Install a Premium Theme
  • Setup Amazon Affiliate Account
  • Maybe start on a blog post schedule
So there we have it. Any feedback or support along the way will be greatly appreciated. This forum has been a wealth of information. Let me know if you have any questions as well! Thanks!

My suggestion is to go for a PMD that is brand able and expandable so that you can expand into an authority site when the time comes and not be restricted to a single niche.

Good luck! I have a journey based around ranking a low comp keyword as well!

good luck. i just try to ranks a microfiche as well and its not so easy any more ...

Thanks! I had already purchased the EMD by the time I saw your suggestion, but we plan on doing future blogs so I'll try that. Good luck on your journey as well!

Day 12
Ok! My plan to do all of the in one day definitely did not happen. Between a full time job, a serious cold, and an active music side hustle, I couldn't get my list done as soon as I would have wanted. 12 days later is better than never though, right?

What I've Done:
Purchased the EMD.
Hosting is setup for free with a friend who's generous with his server space (when offered money, he said, "pay me when you guys start making money.")
WordPress is installed.
My workplace has an unlimited use license account at elegantthemes.com, so I'm using one of their more recent non-Divi themes.
I setup my Amazon affiliate account.
Installed most of my preliminary plugins for WP.
Created a blog post schedule Gdoc and shared it with my writer partner ("Guess that means it's for real and I gotta get typin" he says!)

What I'm Going to do Before My Next Post:
The next thing I'm going to look into is a good Amazon Affiliate plugin, paid or free. The Woocommerce one looks pretty interesting. I want something to streamline the affiliate linking process.
The initial articles are going to be a 2k-5k word post on the main keyword and 13 1k-2k word posts on a secondary keywords. Some of them will include reviews and some will be just informational. I'm going with Meathead1234's $1,000/month Amazon Affiliate method here (I'd post the link but I don't have enough posts yet haha!).
I need to think about how I'm going to drive traffic/build links. I'm sure I'll end up doing a combination of things, but I'm not sure how I should start.

Things I'd Like Opinions On:
An Amazon Affiliate WP Plugin
Preferred manual link building strategies
Anything you guys think I might be missing
New hip hop or jam music to listen to

Hey man, good luck with your journey. I would suggest downloading the 'Amazon Publisher 2.0 studio [beta]' extension for chrome. Makes affiliate link building a breeze (and automatically makes all amazon links nofollow). You can download it from your amazon affiliates log in page.

Also, try testing out the Amazon affiliate native ads. They tend to convert pretty well.

Cheers.
