Reusing an already 301 redirected URL

I have a question about reusing an already 301 redirected URL

Till now I never reused an URLs that has been already redirected with a 301 redirect. However, I just started working on a project where in past they created a lot of 301 redirects without thinking about the future, and now certain URLs, that are currently redirected with a 301, would be very useful and needed (for some of the most important keywords for this specific business), to maintain an optimal, homogeneous and "beautiful" URL structure.

Is reusing an already 301 redirected URL a good practice?

Has any of you ever reused a URL that was previously redirected with a 301 redirect? If yes what are your experiences with it? Can content on the reused URL (that was previously 301 redirected and than the redirect removed) normally rank if the page is reestablished and the redirect is removed (and you do great content, on page, internal linking, backlinking, .... ) or is such an URL risky / not recommended / burned for ever and not ok to be reused again... ?!

it's neither good, or bad. If you must reclaim a 301'd URL and use it you can do just that and it's nobody's business what you do with it. But Google might take a while (months) to update the index with the new URL after you resubmit your sitemap to GSC with the updated URL...

Hmm, I think I may have done it in the past (around 2015-2016 when I was very 301-happy with some of my sites)... I don't remember the effect it's had on my sites, but I don't remember to have penalized them back then (I would know because I'm very panicky so I would have gotten triggered fast )

it's probably fine (but I'm not 100% sure, so wait for a few more replies)

Reusing a 301'd URL can be fine if done correctly. If the URL is valuable for your structure and keyword strategy, it's worth considering. When you remove the 301 and re-establish the original page, Google will eventually re-crawl and re-index it.
It's not 'burned forever', but it may take some time for search engines to recognize the change and rank the content.
