Hello web-lurking fellows!
I'm an information systems researcher with a background in e-commerce and information systems ethics, occasionally lurking around here to follow the latest trends.
With a colleague of mine, we're currently undertaking an academic research project on the ethics of web scraping as approached by web scrapers themselves. Our interest lies in investigating the variety of approaches to data scraping and related ethics among scrapers, and to question the efficacy and relevance of "ethical guidelines" or "codes of ethics".
We're currently interviewing data scrapers to map the variety of approaches to various ethical issues related to data scraping and scrapers' ways around them. Obviously, we'd be glad to have some (anonymous) expert insight from some BHW users so we can better represent said variety.
Any advice on how to best reach out to people here? Both of us are independent researchers receiving no funding from the industry, and with no commercial interests. Would it be frowned upon to share a dedicated research contact e-mail address?
