I'll be brief as this isn't that important and might have been mentioned before, but I think being able to report a post without typing in a reason would be a really sweet quality of life update for the forum.

I'd guess most reports aren't about serious rule breaking, rather minor things which are clearly evident, and as such shouldn't require me to type something in the reason box.

Wow dude, is it such a problem for you to just write 1 single random word or letter in the box and be done with it?

It isn't, but it's an inconvenience to members as well as mods who are in charge of going through these reports. If not typing in a reason could be interpreted as 'clearly evident reason' this would let mods take priority in doing these reports and let them just quickly deal with them with a one-two.

Much better than forcefully typing in a reason that just further confuses the mod, for example.

Hello PaintedBlack and thank you for the suggestion.

It's not an inconvenience. Why, just the other day, one of our moderators asked one of our top reporters if they could send in even more details with their reports. They listened to this, and since they started doing this, their reports are not only even more helpful, but we can go through them much quicker.

Many of our reports are on members suspected of malicious intent.

If we allowed blank reports, it would just add to the confusion. For example, if someone reports a member's profile and doesn't send anything in, they could be breaking any number of rules. They could be post count inflating, they could be selling outside of the marketplace, selling via PM, etc. We need to know what the member was doing specifically that got them reported.

Another example, if someone reports a general post, it's not always clear right off the bat what the issue is. Issues like post count inflation are easy to spot, but then we have less obvious issues like not using the multiquote feature. Of course, we go through the thread anyway, but it's easier to know what the issue is when we receive the report.

I can see why you suggested this, but it just wouldn't work on BHW.
