Renaming Permalinks

I have a site, 6-7 months old, ranking for 80+ KW's.

I want to go back through my posts and rename permalinks to clean them up.

What's the overall effect of this - it essentially renames the URL too, correct? What happens with the current posts/pages that are ranking? Do I need to do manual redirects? Will I lose all current rankings?

Yes Ranking Drops If The post title is 50 methods to earn money and changed to 60 ways to save money it will effect more than 55+ changed to 60+.If You Redirect It Will Cause Duplicate Issue.You Are Definitely Going To Loose Rankings.You Can Do Permanent Redirects 301

Are you using wordpress? I believe that is automatically redirects if you're changing the url.

Yes, using wordpress.
I don't have too much content on there right now so I think I'll just leave it alone. Going forward I'll just make sure I have them named properly before publishing.

If your website is older than six months you will lose all of your social media share count and may risk your existing SEO ranking if you change your permalink structure.
