Remapping a keyborad in an advanced way - Is it possible?

I recently took on a very tiresome task where I have to write some insanely spun articles that also need to read very well. I don't use the best spinner or any other automated tools as they just don't allow me to work fluidly.

I simply use Microsoft Word to manually put in those spintax symbols and find it much easier in terms of keeping my flow of thought uninterrupted.

But, what is killing me is the requirement to press two keys, shift + [\] to generate the {,|, and } symbols. Those keys are placed in a hard positions and I make a lot of typos.

I tried to download some keyboard remapping software that will allow me to reconfigure some unused keys in the keyboard, to work as dedicated keys for the symbols mentioned above. I had no luck. All the keyboard remapping tools just put out [\] instead of {|}.

I would like to use the Left Shift key, the Windows Key and the Right Alt key to generate {|} respectively. If you think about it, you will realize that you probably never really used those keys. Making those dedicated keys will allow for very efficient manual spinning.

Anybody have any ideas on how to do this? I think it will be useful for a few other people who engage in completely manual spinning.

I did the same thing. Now {, } and | are done with one key press.

This doesn't work for me. It is probably because I have 64-Bit Windows. Thanks anyway.

here's a workaround for ya

instead of using word (although it probably has a replace function as well - I don't know, I'm not a secretary) use notepad.

substitute any unused key for each symbol (eg 7=| , 8={ and 9=})

do your spin using those substituted symbols/numbers/whatever.

when your finished use the replace function to insert the correct symbols.

I'd just keep working with it so you can master it rather than depend on anything else. I think in the end you'll be happier you can use the proper key. After a week or two, it will be like any other key.

You could get one of those gaming keyboards with macro keys.
This would also allow you to make longer strings.

You could macro a key to generate {|} with 1 keypress.
On a G15 you get 18 keys which each have 3 presets.

Keep in mind that you could also put complete URL's / passwords and whatever other string you use often behind a key.

This or get a Gaming mouse which has extra keys on which you can set macro's
I use Microsoft Ergonomic Keyboard 4000
and CM Storm mouse
which reduces 50% of my work of creating SEO reports as most of the things are now on single click for me.

I'm 64 bit windows too, but I don't remember if there were options to change the alt and ctrl etc. keys.

I resigned myself to this solution for now.

Go file - Load existing keyboard

when you are done - project - build dll and setup package

What I did was assign {, } and | to a number key and when I am going to do some spinning work I just switch my layout in the language bar.

For some reason it likes to revert back on its own, so you might have to mess about with it like saving your new layout under a new category or something.

I tried meddling with it for about half an hour. Then, the time was just eating into work, delaying everything. I figured the whole purpose was lost and gave up on it. I think I will stick to the default entries for now.

Reconfiguring the left shift, windows and left alt would have been really awesome though.
