redirection from one url to another same domain

Hi ,

Just figured out that one of my sites lost serp when I changed the url structure 3 months ago there are 860 valuable links to that page and I dont want to loose them and regain the serp.

old url:

http://www.mydomain.com/2010/09/xxx need to redirect it to

http://www.mydomain.com/xxxx-xxx

thanks in advance

Anyway, if you're using wordpress they have an awesome plugin called redirect that you can use for all those pesky redirects!

Works like a charm.

Put this as the first line of http://www.mydomain.com/2010/09/xxx

PHP:

<?php header("Location: http://www.mydomain.com/xxxx-xxx"); ?>

All the old links are still good? What about new links, how do you propose to get them to the xxxx-xxx? What is the xxxx, Year? is xxx just an article id number?

How is your normal structure? index.php?year=2010&id=999 ?

Couple ideas... Do you have shell access? Create a symbolic link if it makes sense.. but I dont think it will work in your case.. Another thing to check out would be using .htaccess with mod_rewrite...
