Redirecting questions?

My wife bought a domain months ago and built a little biz around it, but since it is the name of the company, and not the most SEO-friendly domain, I was wondering whether we should purchase two other domain names, both of which are available and exact keyword matches? We're still pretty new to the SEO game, so all help/suggestions/tips are much appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Sure, why not? It's not going to hurt you. Domains are cheap.

Get those domains, throw up some content, and start getting some links. Good things will happen.

If you go with keyword in the domain it's easy to rank. But if you are running professional business need to go with a brand name.

Thanks for the advice guys. Just so I'm clear, it is possible to buy a couple domains (which would rank high for our keyword), and use them purely to redirect people to the money site?

In other words, say the money site is xyz.com (co. name is xyz), but since xyz actually sells widgets in austria, my idea is to buy austriawidgets.com and austriawidget.com, and use them purely to redirect to xyz. Now, do I need to post any content on the new domains or is it possible just to use them to flip it over to xyz.com?

Sorry, because while I know a fair bit about widgets, I know very little about how to optimize the process I just described.

I think you'd be better off just using those domains to build whitehat sites, and directing your visitors to your main site through normal links in your content, or whatever would make the most sense in your case(I don't know what your site is about).

I think you'll get yourself in trouble with these kinds of redirects your talking about, but if you are dead set on redirecting for whatever reason, the cloaking forum will have what you're looking for. It is possible to rank and redirect like you are talking about, but that opens up the possibility of getting reported to google.

So you can create your austriawidgets.com site add some content and get some rankings, and using that plugin have all the traffic redirected to your main site.
