Not too sure what's going on really. My site starts ranking for a keyword, 2 days later it just disappears from the search results on webmaster console? Has anyone experienced this - is it common? Would love to know more about why it does it?

Thanks

It's common after the last update, at least for me. I just kept building links and adding content and after a while, sites started to rank. They drop now and then, but they bounce back.

They don't just drop e.g. 13 -> 54. They actually just disappear. An example of this = Started ranking for a keyword on Monday #10 straight out the gates, then over the last few days it hasn't ranked at all!

If it is a new site then it is very common. New websites lose their newness bonuses and then don't get credit for backlinks for many months. Just have to wait it out if this is the case.

Ah thanks ValidSEO - yes it is a new site, never been registered domain so I guess google is just poking it every now and then.

Site's are still going down all of a sudden, It's just after-effects of the latest update.

Same goes for new pages/posts on old authoritative sites. Each time I submit new "how to" post with a nice keyword in title, add it to index through WMT - it appears in top10-20 right from the start, even gets a few sessions that day, and disappears on the next day. Some pages keep bouncing within the next 6 pages of google later on, but I suppose "newness" is true for all new pages regardless of the parent domain authority.

Thanks for answering guys. Was weird to see it happening but I guess it's just testing the waters with the site and seeing what it gets. But with 0 backlinks going to #10 for a medium keyword just freaked me out. (Actually it made me jump for joy but then...)

it will jump up and down in this period of time, just keep adding content and link, then it will stable at the position it should.
