Hi,

So I'm not an SEOer, but I just got a new client who was surprised that a competitor of hers ranked on Google for local search & she didn't.

She is sure that her competitor (like her) only has a FB page.

I was really surprised that anyone ranks with FB pages, but I guess they do?

Do SEOers work on this, or they only work on sites?

Thanks

Most of us do that as a part of the whole package for clients... SM pages can rank and give the client credibility and drive traffic as well.

Sorry, I had to research b/c the client was waiting.

Yes, well she's a solopreneur, so she doesn't want a website & I'm helping her with the SEO just for FB.

So right now I think I just need to find someone to do the kw research & I'll try to find out if she has any backlinks to her current FB page.

Thanks

Doesn't want a website? Does she understand the risk of losing FB page, and not being in control of posting links?

tell her she be bankrupt in a year or less ,
no website no business pure stupidness .

para website indexing is a good way to drive traffic to a website .

nust reling on facebook as a full website is stupid and will be out ranked in no time .

like said she saw a competitor ranking well we no why you no why so tell her ...

you need a website just to survive

Guys, if she doesn't want one or have the money for one, we can't force her.

She makes cookies & she does all the work herself, so she's not even really a biz per say.

Her competitor ranks in Google & she doesn't & she doesn't have a site either, I just checked.

What do you mean she won't be in control of posting links?

I read that you still do the same SEO by linking to her FB page.

FB page = FB rules, TOS, and rights to delete and filter whatever you're trying to post. It's like giving up your freedom.

You can of course rank using a FB page without issue. That's just piggy back riding on FB's authority in the process. And if you are able to get quality FB users liking the page - users that have a lot of friends (large circle of friends) those likes are actually more valuable than from spam accounts or accounts that have very little activity, etc. Once Google confirms that the page is the authority page for that searched keyword (ie, the company name), then that FB page would be given authority for that specific term as well.

She didn't want to spend the money on me helping her & her daughter said she could find someone to help her for free from her work, so she canceled my contract.

But the kws she wanted to rank for weren't for her company name (although I searched for that too & couldn't find her), but her kws that she should rank for.

Good for me to learn about this anyway, that it's all about the likes, although I would think the posts on her page with kws would matter too.

if an fb page was responsible for the ranking? i 'd suggest to get a website and hosting for 20$ from namecheap and then learn about creating articles yourself here on bhw and then put some content on the website, also create some hq backlinks to the website, supposing that the competition is low then couple of web 2.0s can help - more info can also be found on threads here. less expenses, good luck :)
