Rank and Rent Site

Hey guys,

So after setting up another site just recently, I wanted to try the "rank and rent" method I've been reading about lately, so I picked one big city in south america, (i speak spanish and there's less competition ) and decided on a "cleaning services" website.

I did KW research and found lots of low competition/relatively high search keywords.

I'm going more for volume, since there seem to be a lot of searches for cleaning services of several types.

So far I've:

1. Bought the domain: With the correct country tld, because even though I had to jump through some hoops to get the country domain, after reading a lot, it's definitely worth it if you're targeting local.

2. Set up a virtual address and phone: The address cost about 100 EUR for 1 year, and i actually just need it for GMB, the phone is about 7 eur a month, thinking i'll set up an automated answering machine or something, it's just to give GMB more juice.

3. Set up wordpress, a free SSL, plugins, etc. Now i'm just writing content for the site, using a pre-made layout which fits perfectly (a divi layout).

4. Installed GA,GSC

5. Filled out some basic GMB stuff, waiting for the postcard now.

Once the content is finished and I'm satisfied with how the site looks, i'll clean up the robots.txt, upload content and submit my sitemap to google.

Anyone have any comments or tips on this business model?

Focus on population over search volume it's much more accurate. Do you have a plan in place to sell the leads?

I like targeting the us because there's hundreds of niches to target and thousands of cities. Plenty of low competition areas even in higher population cities. Also there's a lot of affiliate networks to sell your leads to without needing to worry about selling direct to local businesses.

Be careful with virtual offices. Most of them don't work for GMB. Although perhaps in South America there's more available that haven't been banned.

If you've done keyword research well then ranking should be fairly easy.

They key to the business model is scale. There's probably millions of keywords out there all over the world with a combination of niche + city. These sites can (most of mine are) homepage content with contact page and legal page maybe some service pages. If you can make a site a day and try building up to 50 sites you can see which rank well and which don't focus on the good ones. You don't need to focus on GMB for every site. You can always add later as 50 GMB adds up.

Targeting high margin big customer value niches can be good as you can get a lot per lead but competition will be higher.

Population is literally more than 3 million in the city, and i'll dissect by general areas, etc, and also focus on the higher end neighborhoods, etc.

I will admit i'm lacking a follow up plan. No idea what I'll do when i start getting leads/calls (if any haha) My plan was just to call the local businesses I see, and others on local listings for the country, etc Any input on a plan of action would be greatly appreciated.

I thought about the US as well but wanted to test drive the method somewhere to get my feet wet and then do proper research in the US regarding niche. Thanks for the tip, definitely will o eventually for this.

In regards to GMB, I already placed the address there and they are sending the postcard, so let's see what happens. The bad news is, it's not a "1 suite/office # per customer" service, which i found out afterwards when I just googled the address. The good news is that nobody has claimed it on GMB, just plenty of companies using it in their own pages, and all businesses are just BS, so i think it'll be fine for a while.

You're totally right on scale, I should see if I can manage that and rank without GMB, and eventually see where the numbers point to and focus there.

Yeah you can rank without citations and GMB despite what SEOs say about local SEO, links are still king.

Yeah calling up local businesses works, offer them free leads, record phone calls etc.

I am curious mate, how did this go?
I am thinking about getting in the rank & rent business too.
I had also thought about south America since it is true there is very low competition.
