Quiting smoking

I say forget the patch and tough it out. Any crutch you use is a thread that links you to your addiction.

I'm 18 weeks and 3 days as of today, and I smoked 2 packs a day for 17 years prior to that. So the good news is it can be done. The bad news is it never gets any easier despite what the feel-goods tell you. You'll never be a non-smoker, the best we can do is ex-smoker.

I can't agree more with you said. A smoker will always be that, the longest i've gone is a year and a half. I averaged half a pack a day on weekdays, 2 packs a day on weekends.

I find cold turkey is the only real effective way.

You know what they say - once a smoker always a smoker.

Ain't that the truth! Once you're hooked you will always be hooked. I don't smoke but I dip tobacco. And talk about addicting! I wish you the best in your journey to quitting.

I would love to quit dipping but just haven't been able to find that willpower yet.

I tried to stop smoking with Chantix, and got sick as a damn dog. Seems 1 in 3500 people are allergic to it, and I'm one of them. Ended up having to go back to the doctor to get straightened out.

I told the doctor, I'd rather smoke than be that sick again.

I'm ready to try quitting again. The wife quit by using the patches, hasn't had a cigarette in over 10 years.

Might have to try that.

Good luck, Dizz. I'll be starting my turn in a week. Already set the date. (July 4th, my "Independence from Cigarettes" day.

C'mon Dizz... Way to go!

Screw smokin'

I never touch tobacco products. Nope. Just straight ol' green for me.

Go for E-Cig I guess best option. It wont cost any harm as well you will get that flavor of nicotine.

Since nicotine itself is probably the least toxic thing of all the dangeours stuff in a mainstream cig, you can try those additive-free cigarettes that many brands are offering. They taste like crap and you won't get almost any satisfaction.

This is why patches are not working as predicted, the brain does not care much about the nicotine itself. And that's why the e-cigarette is not a panacea too. Smokers need the phenol, DDT, methanol, acetone...

Which is understandable, there are many junkies sniffing paint, thinner, nail polish remover... and methanol is tastier (as in smoother) than normal alcohol.

To test the theory, take a thinner sniff when you think you need a smoke, the feeling of satisfaction will be pretty close and the craving gone. That is not to say you should change the 'venue' lol.

Maybe that is why going cold turkey shows best results statistically. I mean it's really easy to get frustrated when you are craving and the patch doesn't seem to change that. And stress is a real quitting killer.

So accept that you will be giving up on a myriad of compunds, the remaining part is just putting up with the squirming and suffering leading to a better future health.

good luck dizz! the patches do work, what i found hard though is not smoking when i have a beer!

Its all a brain-game!

I quit around couple of months back and no way am gonna touch a cig again!...
Brain game??? a little under 12 hours and I can't BREATHE...... and I don't know if its the patch, or if its because of the not having a cigarette... over 25 years I have been smoking, since i was just about 15 years old... Or so... Out here in the country, you smoked, or chewed tobacco, and worked, noone would blink an eye... My dad even bought it for me... Hell he didnt quit smoking until he was 10 yrs older than I am now... And ever since then, I have heard from my mom, you havent quit smoking yet, you havent quit smoking yet, etc... But this damn COUGH... UGH

Just remember dude,

once you quit, don't go anywhere near a cigarette. I quit 2 and a half years ago and thought I was fine. Then one day I got drunk and decided to take one just for old times sake. Stoopid. Now I'm hooked again. Jeez that sucks...

You know what they say - once a smoker always a smoker.

So best of luck and hope you'll succeed and leave that sh*t for good!
That's impossible.... Everyone I know (except Amanda) smokes, or chews tobacco... LOL... I know it will be a while before I can be around people smoking, but in my apt, no one will be smoking for a while..

My opposite opinion: If you can quit surrounded by cigars, you'll resist better to not start smoking when everyone around you lights a cigar. Thus you'll have better chances to made it.
The cigar part around here, lol are filled with green, lol. But yeah, right now, I want to beat someone for a cigarette... Eventually, I will challenge myself with that.. July 30th, I will be around all smokers, another party with some old friends down at the river, so we will see how that works out...

Goodluck bro. I am offiically 9 days cold turkey. Doesn't sound like a lot to non-smokers, but smokers can appreciate it.
I want you as a sponsor... LOL....

Crutch...I will eventually be using them, so I will start now, LOL... And I buy the fact that it won't get easier. But I will have the hen (Amanda) hovering around watching me... But i am using the patch for now, if I dont like the patch anymore, I will just go cold turkey...

Yeah, I hate people posting just a link to a site that may or may not be worth it... Useful articles, yes, I appreciate, like from Autumn, but not links to just a website.

Willpower, or people nagging at you (Amanda), is necessary... Doesn't mean I like it, but also my insurance company "sponsors" a set up just like AA, its kinda funny. I have a sponsor for quitting cigs.... In Seattle Wa.. LOL... She sounds cute, I haven't met an ugly Bree...

I told the program, fuck chantix... I was not going to do that... Plus I dont know about adding pills to the ones I am already taking.... Could be bad..

I believe in you diz!!! You can do it!!!
Thanks! I am going to try..

C'mon Dizz... Way to go!

Screw you.... LOL JK, but I'm irritated because the patch feels like it is burning, and I can't stop coughing.

I never touch tobacco products. Nope. Just straight ol' green for me.
Im going to try and just do green, but slow down on that too, because I smoke cigs after it too....

It is partly nicotine, but nicotine by itself is a poison also... And inhaling smoke doesn't help your lungs anyways (according to the ALL-KNOWING Amanda). Yeah, If I sound like a dick, its because I am... I just am pissed off... And hurt...

good luck dizz! the patches do work, what i found hard though is not smoking when i have a beer!
I quit alcohol (while i was doing other activities), Quit the other activities, but my smoking isn't tied to those, but I have had to quit before, and it didn't bother me before, but thats because noone was smoking around me and I couldn't get any either, but now that i can get some, and people around me smoking, its going to be a little harder....

Also, to the ones that told me to keep a journal, I dont write very well, horrible handwriting, so this will be my journal... LOL

Dizz

I've recently quit smoking since I found out I have a child on the way. I bought an e-cig to curb the cravings and it is working out pretty well so far. I hope to eventually not need the e-cig either. Good luck!

Good luck dizz! I gave up about 9 months ago - took me about 3 months of wanting to give up to actually give up. Took another 3 months before I stopped wanting a cig! But I feel so much better for it now.

I think if you want to give up that's the main thing, but it's still hard (really hard), just don't give up giving up and you WILL succeed!

last month when i had my new born baby i decided to quit smoking. I made a thread if ecig really does work and for any reviews, i bought one and now its coming 2 months since my last real cigarette and i havent even used my ecig for a week now,
even i get drunk or hanging out with smokers i do not have any urge to smoke.

no, im not saying that ecig was the reason why i have not smoked for almost 2 months now, i think its because i have found a very good reason to quit and the reason was not for me but for my baby and of course ecig did really help a lot in the process.

i am hoping that my smoking addiction will not come back, im keeping my ecig in case i get crazy and start smoking again..

good luck to you man find that reason first before you start quitting

...
Screw you.... LOL JK, but I'm irritated because the patch feels like it is burning, and I can't stop coughing.
...

Well this particular type of coughing is great news. Dust particles that we inhale all the time are transported back from the lungs to the mouth and usually swallowed to be expelled through we all know what :)

The transport is through tiny 'hairs' in the lungs and cigarette smoke keeps them paralyzed. When we sleep, we are not smoking and they start working so smokers usually need to cough out all the crap that was transported while they slept.

Same with you now, even if you don't sleep.

The next thing you are about to experience in just a day or so is being able to do more physical work without panting. This is due to getting rid of the carbon monoxide constantly lodged in 10% of your oxygen transporting cells while you smoked.

hic hic :( i tried it 4 times but it's impossible with me how can I do :(

I quit them about 8 years ago when my son was born. Just pure will power! Trying to get the wife to quit them now.
